How do I get flights??
With almost 1 million award points on an SAS diamond card, I am finding it almost impossible to book award flights to S.E. Asia. We’re looking for first class with Lufthansa, Thai or Swiss etc. but cannot get anything even though we are flexible with dates. Eurobonus do not really help here. They won’t look at all dates, we have to painstakingly go from date to date with them. Any suggestions, bearing in mind we cannot go directly to the airlines sites to book with points, with the exception of SAS own flights which are not suitable.
Regards and thanks,
Anne–I am not very familiar with the SAS program but Lufthansa usually does not release seats to partners more than a couple of weeks before departure. Swiss only allows it’s own program members to redeem for first. I’ve seen reports of Thai being stingy but also that there might be good last minute availability (see: http://onemileatatime.boardingarea.com/2014/06/17/last-minute-award-space/ and comments). Maybe @Lucky or @Tiffany can chime in with more up to date information. Bottom line, If you are focused on first class, you may not be able plan very far ahead with these options.
In terms of searching space, you should be able to see it by creating a free United, ANA, or Aeroplan frequent flier account since the same space is usually released to all partners. Good luck!
Agreed, particularly about First class being very limited on the airlines you’re looking at. Honestly, for Star Alliance carriers I would look at the better business class products — Austrian, Turkish, Brussels, Swiss, etc., all have better products than you’ll find on the old Thai first class (though the new F is great if you can find it).
I would check out the Beginners Guide, and this post for more details: http://onemileatatime.boardingarea.com/2014/12/18/where-to-find-award-space/
How many people are you looking for tickets for when you say we? 2 or more?
The more people going the hard it’s to find premium seats.
Where in S.E. Asia are you trying to go? Far from all cities will have F service, LH don’t fly F to BKK just as an example.
Seem to remember that SK is starting a route to HKG soon, when that gets SK new J product would that not be an option?
Bit surprised too hear you call Turkish one of the better biz products? Don’t they use a 2-3-2 J cabin on their Boings and 2-2-2 on their Airbus widebodies ? Catering and lounge in IST is great, but the rest?
And why is the Thai 77W not on the list? Was under the impression that the J hard product was fairly decent 1-2-1 config?
Especially since that is the machine Thai flies to ARN, CPH and OSL assuming Anne is located in Scandinavia seeing as she is a EB Diamond? Same type of machine also does ZRH and BRU if memory serves me right.
And does not Thai also use the same J seat on their A380 out of FRA, CDG and LHR?
Checked Lifemiles and there is availability out of ARN, CPH and OSL for 2 J seats most days. Especially out of CPH where there seems to only be 1 or 2 days a week for the next 5 weeks that don’t have 2 free seats, then one week with no space and then week 7 was fully open. I stopped checking after that.
Not seeing much F on the A380 for 2, or J. Just 1 or 2 days up to 2 weeks out.
@No Name I think the responses were both about the specific question about first class availability. Opening up J as a choice would definitely expand options I agree.
