Hertz Gold Rewards – Something is Wrong

Hertz Gold Rewards – Something is Wrong

Hertz Gold Rewards is either practicing false advertising or their customer service has no idea what’s happening. I use Avis in North America and Hertz in Europe . Since they almost never post the points to my airline or hotel partners correctly I decided to accumulate Hertz Gold Rewards points and then convert them later, which is an option for higher tier members (I am currently President’s Circle). On March 19th I noticed the option to ‘Exchange My Points’ was missing from my account and Customer Service replied on March 25th that their website was being fixed. On April 18th, noticing it was still not working I asked again and was told the program rules had been changed and exchanging points was no longer offered. I understand they have the rights to change the rules “without notice” even if it’s bad service. But even today their website is showing this as a benefit for new members, and showing you how to Exchange Points in the Q&A (screenshots attached). So either Customer Service is wrong, or this is really false) and possibly illegal advertising! Has anyone else experienced this? Is anyone else able to Exchange Points? PS: I’m a daily reader of the newsletter and really value the insights from Lucky, the team, and many of the frequent readers!

    Hi Susan,

Most likely it is just a temporary measure to conserve cash flow for Hertz, since they probably have to pay some sort of cash value to the airlines to exchange points. Many loyalty programs around the world are doing similar things, like no longer allowing you to cash out points for gift cards. I’d hope when life gets back to normal, the option should be back as it used to be.

Very small chance, but it could potentially be related to this, and Hertz has temporarily stopped allowing points exchanges at the airlines request while they figure out how to close this loophole.
