Frustration With UA’s GPU

Frustration With UA’s GPU

  1. Anonymous Guest

As a United 1K, it is truly frustrating when I pay several hundred extra dollars for a ticket where I can use a Global Premier Upgrade (GPU) certificate, then I don’t get the upgrade! Especially frustrating when flying to Asia. This has happened several times.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there anything that can be done to get a refund on the difference?

There’s also something wrong (in my eyes) when you’ve earned the status and GPU’s then are given the privilege of paying MORE to use the upgrade certificate. Surely, I’m not the only person frustrated by this practice.

I can see how frustrating this is but these days planes have fewer premium cabin seats available than ever for upgrades. Your best bets will be unusual routings or flying mid-week, unfortunately. Even as a 1K there are still lots of folks who may qualify for upgrades ahead of you. On a recent LHR-ORD flight there were probably a dozen Global Services members in their own line and I heard some 1Ks grumbling about how far back in the pack they found themselves.
