EVA Air Business Upgrade Award Availability

EVA Air Business Upgrade Award Availability

  1. Meekie New Member

    Hi Lucky,

Would there be a way to find out how many sits are available from EVA Air for Business class upgrades using aeroplan points. (i.e Z booking class)

I am trying to use my Air Canada aeroplan mileage to upgrade a return ticket to business class from Taipei to Seattle by EVA air at the end of August. All places I have phoned are telling me that I have to have a ticket issued first before trying my luck to search for an available upgrade.

However, my problem here is, I want to book a Y or B, preferably B class and then upgrade to the business Z class. If there is no hope, than I will need to book the premium economy which is more expensive than Y and B and not suitable for upgrade.

    Thanks a lot!
    Meekie

Welcome @Meekie – Expert Flyer will show you what Z class space is available.

You could also enable expert mode on United.com and use that to search for your flights. That will show you fare class details. Not as much functionality as expert flyer of course but it’s free.

Thank you both @MidSouth Skier and @Gaurav ! I will definitely check those programs out.

Another newbie question, if Eva Air ends up having a limited number of upgrade awards on the dates I am looking for, would purchasing a more expensive fare (i.e K vs. B) having a higher chance to score one of those upgrades?

If upgrade awards are available and you buy an eligible fare class, you should be able to call and get the upgrade once you have a ticket. Just make sure to check availability before buying the more expensive ticket, otherwise you’d be spending a lot of money for Y.

According to Aeroplan’s site, EVA Air economy K fares are also eligible

How much is this ticket anyway? A business class award is 75k miles one way, which might be better than buying an eligible Y ticket and upgrading with miles. You can transfer miles to Aeroplan from Amex MR if you dont have enough. With the right cards, Amex MR points are easily replenished.

    Thank you @David W !!

Tickets are definitely not cheap, K is about 2400 and B is 1800 with Y falls somewhere in between. I only have a pitiful amount of points 63K, but looking to have a return ticket in business class, both ways works to be 150K for an award ticket, but just 50K for upgrades, and travelling in Aug doesn’t really allow me that time to accumulate my points for an award ticket this time. But I will definitely watch out for the different cards, plan ahead for the future.

Also btw, would any one know what exactly is the class I should be looking for for the upgraded business class?

I first learnt it was “Z”, from Eva Air’s official website.
Booking Designators for upgrade award: Z – Business / Premium Laurel / Royal Laurel,

When I signed up and started using Expert Flyer, it website says “I” for business award & Start Alliance Upgrade.

Since I am using Air Canada Aeroplan to upgrade, should it be “I” then? Should I interpret Z as for Eva Air member upgrading using Eva milage?

Thanks in advance for any help!!

So, I’ve never done an Aeroplan to EVA upgrade, but I think you’d need “I”. “Z” is likely reserved for those using EVA miles (and they may have expanded availability).
