Emirates awards on JAL – one way

Emirates awards on JAL – one way

Do one-way EK awards using JAL MileageBank points follow the same distance based award chart or is it a little more expensive to book the one way? I thought I read somewhere that is more advantageous to book round-trip versus one-way.

It’s the same mileage chart. It could be advantageous to book round trip depending on the number of miles flown.

For example, JAL charges 100k miles for first class travel that is between 6001-8000 miles. DXB-JNB-DXB is 7940 miles so youre “using up” almost the entire 8000 miles that is allowed at that price. Furthermore, DXB-JNB is just under 4000 miles and JAL will charge 65k miles. If you have the extra miles, 35k isnt too much more and you’d get a round trip ticket.

DXB-ATH is just over 2035 miles, meaning you’d be charged for the 2001-4000 mile tier – 65k for first class. You’d be “wasting” 1965 miles you could other wise fly for the same price.
