Do Asia Miles redemptions work?… at all?

Do Asia Miles redemptions work?… at all?

I have been trying between the Asia Miles site and Cathay Pacific’s site to book an award flight from IAD to LHR (and back) on BA business class. Every time it shows availability, I select it, enter passenger info (instead of loading from a saved profile, which is annoying), click next…

“Error: Price for your trip has changed. New quote is displayed below”

Only there’s no new price displayed below. I have to go through the process again; price is the same to the penny, but it happens again: “Error: Price for your trip has changed. New quote is displayed below”

Fine, they’re an airplane company, not a tech company, and I understand their points site isn’t a major source of revenue. Thankfully they have a “flight award request form”, that will get it in front of a person who can figure out why it shows availability but won’t let me book it, right?

I’m sure you know where this is going. It takes their customer service a WEEK to get back to me saying there’s no availability, and telling me to check for availability… guess where… Yup, their website.

So my question to whomever might answer it is this: Have you ever successfully booked an award ticket with Asia Miles? If so, how?

I have, though it’s always been for travel on Cathay. Maybe you’re running into phantom award space? Do your seats show up on American’s and Alaska’s websites? If they dont show up, then its likely to be phantom space. If they DO show, then it’s probably not phantom space. In either case, call Asia Miles and have them check availability.
