CX PEY JFK-YVR

CX PEY JFK-YVR

I know the basics of booking a CX award (have to look on BA/QF website and call etc.) with AA miles and I think I want to book an award for my family in CX PEY in March 2018. I know it is a bit in advance but, I have a few questions.
How good is CX at releasing PEY award space?
Will AA book me in Y on the connecting flight?
Will AA even have a cost for PEY awards to Canada?

Does PEY = Premium Economy? Per the AA website you can’t use AA miles to book Premium Economy on other airlines.

This might change in the future when AA finishes its own PEY rollout but for now @MidSouth Skier is correct.

I mentioned that I wanted to do it in 2018 by which time AA should have a reasonable amount of PEY rolled out.

Well yes, but we don’t have any information as to if or when AA might change that policy.

Hard to say when AA will update their chart to show premium economy redemptions, maybe March for when Premium Economy service actually begins and that miles needed will probably be closer to a business class award.

I’m not sure how good CX PEY availability is – use BA to check. I think it’s probably similar to business class since there arent that many seats in the cabin. And I’d assume that AA will put you in Y on any segments that dont have a PEY cabin. Putting you in Business would make the award be priced differently. AA will consider it a voluntary downgrade.

Lastly schedules for 2018 arent loaded yet and you wouldnt be able to book until April 2017 for March 2018 travel anyway.
