Critique this award redemption
So I got my brother into points and miles about 6-7 months ago, and he has a job that consistently requires him to purchase in large amounts.
Fast forward to today. hes accumulated 400k MR and 300k UR. His 10 year anniversary is coming up in June(farily short notice), With a 2.5 year old in tow. He wants to kill 2 birds with one stone. and this is basically what i came up with.
Home is SEA, He wants to take the 3 of them to CPH and take a the Disney cruise for the kid. Then Stop in FRA, LHR then get back home. with the least amount of cash possible.
seeing as they are going with a child, i wanted to minimize time in air and # of stops.
what i got was flying LH J from SEA-LHR using Aeroplan from MR. at 110kper person + ~$200.
then LH J from CPH-FRA-SEA Using United from UR at 70k +~$100 per person. I had the though of going throught ANA and booking 80k RT perperson but the taxes on that came out to be about $800-$900 per person.
Im sure this isnt the best redemption rate, but hes points heavy and didnt want to spend cash out of pocket.
What do you guys think? Any suggestions that can make this better?
Looks good in general, but a one-way on Aeroplan should only be 55k per person. The fuel surcharges for flights on Lufthansa in business class seem a little low as well?
LH J SEA-FRA-LHR using Aeroplan is 55k but when I search, it’s telling me taxes and fees are $720 so you might want to double check that before booking, especially if its 2 adults and a kid. Keep monitoring award space – Aeroplan doesnt levy fuel surcharges on some of their partners – Swiss, SAS, Brussels & United are probably your best options

Oops, got the numbers all mixed in my head.
SEA-FRA-LHR is total 165k +750tax.
CPH-FRA-SEA is 210k + 115 tax.
Well, for Aeroplan thats 55k + $720 per person. So for 3 pax, youre right its 165k but taxes will be $2100+
Honestly, I’m not sure I’d pay that much in taxes for LH J. For LH F, I’d say its worth it but they only release space to partners within 14 days of departure.
Agree. It’s a bit trickier to search for, but I’d look at connecting in the US to United, or adding a connection and flying Swiss, Brussels, SAS, etc. The extra stop would definitely be worth the cost savings for me.
The total taxes for all entire rt for 3 was under 1000$ . Using aero plan they only charged 164000 + 1006 Cad.
SAS out of SFO is a good choice. Not sure of the specific, but the route is nice on new product with decent flight time.

unfortunately due to dates of the cruise leaving CPH only being about 2 months away. There was no availability from the west cost in to europe with out 2 stops and/or a positioning flight from SEA. + with a small child.
this seemed like the best win-win for them, less stops, comfortable product for the 3 of them, with out breaking too much bank.
