Correct taxes on AA/BA award

Correct taxes on AA/BA award

1. johnmaher New Member

I booked a ticket recently for LAX-LHR(AA)-VCE(BA) in Business class. It’s pricing out at 50,000 AAdvantage miles and $102.80 in taxes. If I were to book just the LAX-LHR(AA) it only prices at 50,000 AAdvantage miles and $5.60 in taxes. The following is the breakdown of the taxes.

Adult fare, taxes and carrier-imposed fees
Base fare $0.00 USD Per person
CARRIER-IMPOSED FEES $40.00 USD
PASSENGER SERVICE CHARGE $35.00 USD
UNITED KINGDOM
TRANSPORTATION TAX $17.70 USD
UNITED STATES
PASSENGER FACILITY CHARGE $4.50 USD
UNITED STATES
US SECURITY FEE $5.60 USD
UNITED STATES

Total Adult taxes and carrier-imposed fees
$102.80 USD
Per person

So my question is, should I really be paying these extra taxes or can I call in and have at least a few of them removed?

@johnmaher — Welcome! Those look correct to me; you do pay higher fees for the British Airways flight, and European airport taxes are higher as well.

@Tiffany Thanks for responding so promptly! A big thanks to Ben too for posting about the amazing award availability that made this possible.
I know BA’s taxes and fees on award bookings are high, but what surprised me the most, was that AA was choosing to tack on 2 additional US taxes because I added the LHR-VCE segment. It’s only an additional $22 dollars in US taxes so I’m not going to worry but it just seemed strange to me.
