Chase Saphire Reserve Insurance – NOT

Chase Saphire Reserve Insurance – NOT

  1. Anonymous Guest

Qantas delayed my SYD to LAX flight 4.5 hours which meant that I would not make my connection to South West (had allowed 4 hours layover). This meant a big increase in points needed to reschedule the flight and a potential overnight stay. Called Chase Sapphire Reserve Travel insurance and they basically told me too bad – if the delay is less than 6 hours you’re not covered – even if it results in your missing your connections and having to pay a lot more to get home. BTW – I was told it doesn’t matter what caused the delay. Seems like what I thought was a good policy/benefit is severely lacking. Is this response similar to those that others have experienced – or did I just get someone who didn’t have the proper information? Should I call back and see if I get a more sympathetic or better informed agent? Anyway, lesson learned. Is AMEX coverage better for this type of issue? If so I’ll be changing over to that card when making arrangements across multiple airlines.

Cards that offer trip delay protection usually requires a 12 hour or overnight delay before they’ll reimburse expenses. A few cards require 6 hours before the benefit kicks in.

Steph has a detailed post about it here: https://onemileatatime.com/trip-delay-coverage-credit-card/

Amex cards dont have any kind of trip delay coverage.
