Changing an American Award booked with Alaska Miles
I currently have an award booked from ORD-MIA-RTB on American Airlines booked with Alaska miles. I may already be in MIA and won’t need the ORD-MIA leg, but won’t know until it gets closer to the date. Does anyone know if I can drop the ORD-MIA leg and retain the MIA-RTB leg even if there is no longer “new” award space on the MIA-RTB leg at the time I modify the booking?
@Chris you should be able to change the award (may have to pay the change fees listed here: http://onemileatatime.boardingarea.com/2014/08/04/airline-award-ticket-change-fees/). @Tiffany could you confirm that AS awards on AA are not subject to the linked segments you had mentioned about EK once?
Thanks @Gaurav . I couldn’t find anything that has the married segments for anything other than Emirates and didn’t know if it was because it wasn’t there or it’s just not been discussed. My other option was to book both itineraries and cancel the one I don’t need since I have status with Alaska and won’t have to pay the fee.
@Chris if you have status that seems like a no brainer to me although AA has been known to cancel duplicate bookings, specially where they are in the same cabin and both award seats… Not sure how that works for an AS award ticket but a potential pitfall to be aware of.
You should be fine to cancel a segment, just make sure you do it beforehand, obviously. American doesn’t marry segments, so no worries there.
