Questions and Answers

Hello all,

Trying to find a way on Dec 8 (anytime between Dec 4 and 10 works) from Auckland to Buenos Aires. Need to book through United. Doing this late… So the challenges pile up! We are currently on Air New Zealand’s new flight AKL-EZE Dec 8, but in economy as they seem to never open business seats (and can’t book economy plus with miles according to agents at both airlines). The good thing is it’s a direct flight and about 12 hours of travel. The bad is this plane really squeezes in the economy seats (10 across!) and for that long, doesn’t sound like much fun (we’re traveling around the world on a series of oneway flights booked in miles and treating ourselves largely to business/first seats). I’ve looked at every option I can think of, looking out of Sydney, Melbourne, etc. Even going into Sao Paolo or Rio. Nothing comes out as reasonable. 40+ hour journeys with 3 transfers, etc. Thought of going to somewhere in between for a couple of days (like Istanbul, Johannesburg, Hawaii, Japan, etc.). I find either a good flight to a midway point, then a terrible flight to EZE, or a terrible flight to a midway point and a good flight to EZE, but nothing is good on both ends. Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions/tricks? We only have about 20k miles we could transfer right now from our Sapphire cards, so that isn’t going to help much, stuck with United routings. You’re not missing anything, unfortunately. That’s a tough route, and a [I]very[/I] tough time of year. 🙁

The good news — space will likely improve closer to departure, so I’d keep an eye on it as we get into December.
