Booking AA / BA with Etihad miles.

Booking AA / BA with Etihad miles.

This somewhat goes along with my other post from today regarding my ORD-SOF trip, but I ran across another option I had some questions about.

I am considering using Membership Rewards on Etihad to book an AA flight from ORD-LHR-SOF since they have a 30% transfer bonus right now. Seems like a good deal since Etihad charges 20k miles O/W from NA to EU and they don’t pass on AA YQ, if I read everything correctly.

However, my question is regarding the second leg from LHR-SOF, which is on BA metal. Is it possible to include this flight on the itinerary? If so, will Etihad add some insane fuel surcharges due to it being a BA flight?

    Thank you!!

You cannot book flights operated by BA using Etihad miles.

As PhatMiles says BA is not a partner of Etihad, and Etihad is not a member of any of the big alliances.

Etihad partners that you can redeem miles on:

Of their European partners AirBerlin and AirSerbia flies to SOF. Only AirSerbia flies to both LHR and SOF.

If you want AirBerlin you would have to find a connection in the US that goes to Zurich or Rome, where AB flies to TXL and AA flies to the US. Or depending on when you are traveling AA might have a seasonal flight to DUS from ORD. So ORD-DUS-TXL-SOF

You might also want to look into AirSerbia new flight to/from JFK and see if the timing works for you, since you are looking at a minimum of 2 stops anyway.
