Best way to Peru/Argentina with 100k AA and 90k Citi points?

Best way to Peru/Argentina with 100k AA and 90k Citi points?

Hi all! After taking this end of year off from travelling and relaxing at home for 2 weeks (NEVER doing that again) I’m looking to my travel plans for the holidays in 2019/2020.

At the top of my list is Peru/Argentina. The order doesn’t matter and I’m looking to spend a week in each. I have status with AA and about 90k points with them, and roughly 65k in ty points that should get to about 100k by fall. I’m based out of LA but don’t mind flying out of other hubs.

    Anyone have any recommendations?

    Thanks!

I haven’t looked recently, but I feel like Peru is super cheap for paid tickets. Have you looked there before looking for awards?

For business class or higher? I don’t see that being very cost effective

AA only charges 30k for biz between US and Peru, which is fantastic. They charge 57.5k for US to Argentina, also decent. If it’s the same trip, Try finding award space one of the countries one way and the other country the other way. And for travel between the two maybe get a paid ticket or try Avois? Otherwise, AA charges 25k for one way between Peru and Argentina, which is nuts.

For Citi TY points, your best bet is probably transferring to LifeMiles to book travel on Avianca

I was just suggesting to look at all your options. I agree with David that 30k for biz between US and Peru is a fantastic value, if you can find space.

However, looking at random dates in December 2019, you can fly business class from LA to to Lima round-trip for less than $1,800 round-trip, with almost endless routing options. You could fly Copa through Panama City, on their 737 with lie-flat seats… American through Miami, on their 767 with lie-flat seats… etc.

Also keep in mind the cost of earning more points/miles, as well as points/miles you’d be foregoing by booking an award vs a paid ticket.

Copa has recliners on all routes, last I heard

Morning @wilve, took me by surprise too! Seems one of their daily flights from Los Angeles gets the flat beds, at the moment
