Amex MR->SPG->Marriott for Flight & Hotel Pkg

Amex MR->SPG->Marriott for Flight & Hotel Pkg

Can you help me determine if what I am trying to do makes sense.

I am looking at transferring 240K MR to SPG, which yields me 120K (Canada transfer rate is 0.5). This SPG 120K after transferring to Marriott is 360K that I can use to book at Cat 8 Marriott in Hawaii for 7 nights. In addition with the Aeroplan promotion of +35% when transferring from a hotel program, the 120K air miles Marriott gives will yield me 162K aeroplan points. Since I normally transfer MR to Aeroplan anyways, I’m essentially spending 78K “points” (240K-162K) for a 7 night certificate, which seems like a good deal to me.

Amex Canada has limited transfer partners and although I have transferred to Avios once at 1:1, their flight availability is scarce compared to Aeroplan, hence why I value MR and Aeroplan the same in Canada anyways.
