    Basically, I was booked an award using mileage plan going from JNB to LAX via HKG on CX, and the JNB-HKG leg only offers a J class, not an F cabin, but the leg going from HKG to LAX does, and that is what I booked.

    A few days ago I got an email saying they reconfirmed the ticket and I was downgraded from First to Business on the HKG to LAX leg, I called Alaska and they told me it was due to an aircraft change and F is no longer a cabin they offer, so I looked on Google Flights and actually called CX, and sure enough there was no aircraft change and first is still available for cash bookings. Best Alaska wanted to do was refund the difference in miles, is there and action I can take for this? I’m kind of bummed I spent hours searching for space only to be downgraded.

    You can try calling Alaska and Cathay on a 3 way call and see if they can put you on another flight with CX F, since that was what you originally booked. You wouldnt need to find available award space for this since CX swapped aircraft.
