Aeroplan Access to Star Alliance
Transferred some Amex MR over to Aeroplan as many had said online that Aeroplan is still one of the best redemptions for LH F for my girlfriend and I (2 pax).
Trying to book LH F from TXL to SFO (via FRA or MUC – routing for me doesn’t much matter for me) about two weeks out (currently looking at Tuesday, 11/1).
I see some space on United searching for 2 pax on 11/1: TXL-MUC-ORD-SFO, with the MUC-ORD flight in LH F. However, when I search the Aeroplan site for this award, even segment by segment, I can’t see the LH F space.
Is there usually a discrepancy between UA availability and Aeroplan availability online for the same segment? If I call to book, will the agent be able to see the LH F segment between MUC-ORD that I can’t bring up on the Aeroplan online tool?
There have been some issues with Aeroplan not displaying true Lufthansa space, and also with United showing more space than is actually available.
Given you’ve already transferred the points, I’d definitely call!
Have you also tried to search Aeroplan segment by segment? Sometimes Aeroplan has problems spitting out itineraries with multiple connections and mixed carriers. LH F MUC-ORD 11/1 is available on Aeroplan so guess its a problem with the routing – call them! Just be ready for LONG hold times. I’ve waited over an hour before.
Does Aeroplan not have the same access to Star Alliance awards as United MileagePlus? I notice that inside the 14 day prior to departure period, United has access to Lufthansa First Class award space that Aeroplan does not.
Guys – I was able to find the MUC-ORD availability via the Aeroplan tool and call in to book my trip today! I used the call-back function and didn’t have to wait on hold long at all. Final is MUC-ORD-SFO (changed itinerary outbound to fly directly to Berlin and fly back from Munich). Unfortunately, ORD-SFO only had economy availability, but at least we get to experience LH F! Thanks for all the responses.
And yes, Ron, Aeroplan does not show some availability United has… my understanding is it has to do with some capacity controls on the Aeroplan side but I don’t know much of the details.
