Aadvantage/Etihad

    Hi Ben/OMaaT readers,

If I’m understanding the AAdvantage routing rules correctly, JFK-AUH-CMB isn’t a legal routing but JFK-AUH-CAI is, for 90k AAdvantage miles on Etihad, correct?

Also, if my award was only JFK-AUH in first but would connect same day to a purchased flight in economy, would I be able to use the Etihad lounge while on the ground in AUH?

    Thanks!
    David

David, you’re exactly right, you can’t route from the US to CMB via AUH due to the zone restrictions. The CAI connection is fine, though. If you connect same day on a separate ticket you should still get lounge access.

Thanks Ben. Any route recommendations for getting from the US to HK/Guangzhou and back with one leg in the Etihad A380 First? Ideally, the trip would be in 2016. I have an abundance of AA miles and im working in Citi TY points

Ultimately it’s going to cost you a lot more than flying direct on Cathay Pacific, so I’m not sure it’s worth it, necessarily. If you do definitely want to do it, then aim for JFK-AUH on the A380, and then maybe book a separate award from AUH to Asia on one of the planes with a first class cabin.

    I’ll look into it. Thanks!
