AA pre-deval: JAL First instead of Cathay business?

AA pre-deval: JAL First instead of Cathay business?

    Hi everyone,

Been having trouble securing a return flight in Cathay First before tomorrow’s devaluation (HKG to SFO or LAX). So I’ve been thinking about JAL First instead.

Has anyone tried to use the JAL award calendar recently? I remember @Lucky ‘s post from December saying it would be down for a few months. It loaded okay for me today, but indicated all the Japan to US flights would be waitlisted. Thinking I’ll just call AA to determine what availability they see.

Anyone fortunate enough to book a JAL F seat recently?

@Debo you could check the UK JAL site but I’d look at a partner site like BA if you are using AA miles.

Yes, check via BA. I found and ticketed 2 seats in JAL F for 2 of my friends, traveling in Jan 2017. Sometimes JAL releases 2 seats in F right at the open of the schedule.

Yeah I looked at both BA and Qantas’ sites and couldn’t find any availability whatsoever. Qantas was trying to put me back on Cathay via HKG. (but obviously was showing nothing in First)

Search by segment. HKG-NRT/HND usually has seats in First. Book the 2nd leg in Business and then call AA to upgrade to F on the 2nd leg if/when it becomes available. It’ll price and ticket as an F award so you’ll at least lock in current mileage prices. In this instance, upgrading to F on the same carrier while keeping origin & destination the same shouldn’t trigger a reprice.
