AA miles to fly Etihad HKG-AUH-JFK — how do I do this?

AA miles to fly Etihad HKG-AUH-JFK — how do I do this?

    Hi there,

I’m sure this has been covered before, but I’m trying to find out how I can book an award tickets on Eithad with AA miles to fly HKG-AUH-JFK. I know you have to book it as two awards, but if I’m understanding the award chart rules correctly, you there’s no AA award from Asia 2 (HKG) to the Middle East (AUH) without coming back to the US first. Am I misunderstanding something, or would I have to fly HKG-AUH using miles on another carrier? Since I believe Etihad is the the only airline flying HKG-AUH, I have no idea what my other options would be.

Thanks very much for your help!

    Best,
    Todd

AA’s OW and Partner award chart (booked before 3/22/16) is here https://www.aa.com/i18n/AAdvantage/redeemMiles/all-partner-chart.jsp

Select “Asia 2” and it opens up the award pricing – 22.5/30/45 miles needed for HKG-AUH

I had this exact route booked, but its operated by EY’s A330 usually. I changed my routing to HKG-SIN-AUH and here’s why: CX in Business (reverse herringbone, not their regional product) and SIN-AUH on EY’s 789 with their new business studio. It’s the same 30k miles for business class, or 45k miles to fly the SIN-AUH leg in First. Flying out of HK early means getting a nice layover on SIN, enough time for a quick sprint into the city and back, before continuing on the night flight to AUH.

EY seems to be releasing last F space on their AUH-JFK leg but if not, the Business Studio is also a great product I think.

    Happy travels!
