AA Downgrade

AA Downgrade

Hi everyone! I booked my family of four first class on AA using miles (ATL-DFW-NRT-TPE). The DFW-NRT segment was downgraded to business class, as the aircraft was reconfigured with the new business class seats without first class. I’ve tried four times to get rerouted via HKG with no luck. Each rep has said there needs to be award availability. This seems surprising to me. I would think they’d rebook me on the class of service I booked, if I’d like. One rep said if I stayed in business, I’d receive the difference in miles – but only after I’ve flown. Most have seemed clueless and have said I can’t change and won’t get refunded the difference as it’s still the highest class of service. What do you suggest I do? Worth the hassle to keep trying to get in First? Or is business just fine with the upgrade? Thanks for the help!

At minimum they should refund the miles, before your flight. I dont see why they have to wait until afterwards to refund the difference.

Have you also asked agents to try and route you via Los Angeles or Chicago?

Yep, asked them about any route that has first class. I asked about HKG first because of the routing and product. Told in both cases that there has to be award availability. Doubt that’s going to happen with 4 F seats.

Ask again! Your logic is right, but it will depend upon inventory management and if they’re willing to open up the space. But you should be able to get someone to at least ask, which it doesn’t seem like is happening.

Thanks for the info and encouragement! I gave it another shot and sure enough they were able to open up seats on DFW-HKG First. Glad I asked again! Crazy it takes so many times to make things right, though.
