The St. Regis brand has been nicely expanding in the Caribbean in recent times. In January 2025, we saw the opening of the St. Regis Aruba, and now we’ve seen the opening of the brand’s first property in the Dominican Republic. Let’s cover the details.

Basics of the new St. Regis Cap Cana, Dominican Republic

The St. Regis Cap Cana has opened as of late April 2025. It’s located on the east coast of the Dominican Republic, near Punta Cana.

The property has 200 keys, including 174 guest rooms and 26 suites. In terms of amenities, the resort features four pools, beach access, a spa with 13 treatment rooms, a fitness center, a club for kids, St. Regis butler service, and more. Also near the property will be the 18-hole waterfront Punta Espada golf course, designed by Jack Nicklaus.

The resort has a staggering nine food and beverage outlets, including Nina (in collaboration with chef Diego Muñoz, open for dinner), Cassava (a Latin American restaurant, open all day), The Amber Room (a rum and cigar bar), Carey Bay Seaside Bar (a casual outdoor restaurant open for lunch and dinner), Kawa Coffee Shop (a coffee and chocolate shop), and more.

Entry level rooms at the St. Regis Cap Cana start at 560 square feet (50 square meters). Standard suites start at 1,130 square feet (102 square meters), and some accommodations even offer direct pool access.

The property has been designed by Chapi Chapo Design, the same firm behind the St. Regis Kanai (in Mexico) and Amanyara (in Turks & Caicos).

I’m curious, I can’t say that a trip to the Dominican Republic has ever been on my radar. To those who have been, how do you compare it to other Caribbean islands?

St. Regis Cap Cana rates & points requirements

With the St. Regis Cap Cana now open, what are rates like? Not surprisingly, it’s an expensive property, given proximity to the United States.

Pricing varies a bit by season. Currently I see entry level rooms starting at $600 to $1,100 per night, give or take. However, that’s before the 28% in taxes and service charges, which really increase rates considerably.

St. Regis Cap Cana cash rates

If you are going to book a cash stay, I’d highly recommend doing so through the Marriott STARS program. This will score you perks like complimentary breakfast, a $100 food & beverage credit, a room upgrade subject to availability, and more. Ford and his team are happy to help with Marriott STARS bookings for Ritz-Carlton Reserve properties, and can be reached at [email protected].

For those looking to redeem Marriott Bonvoy® points, I see rates starting at 102,000 Bonvoy points per night. Keep in mind that you can receive a fifth night free on award redemptions, which will stretch your points even further. This has the potential to be a good redemption option, given that when you’re redeeming points, you don’t have to pay the 28% in taxes and service charges.

St. Regis Cap Cana points rates

Bottom line

The St. Regis Cap Cana, Dominican Republic, has opened as of April 2025. It’s always nice to have more Caribbean points properties, and I imagine this will be popular with Bonvoy members. The Dominican Republic is largely known for all-inclusive resorts, so it’s interesting to see Marriott bring one of its most luxurious brands there. The property looks pretty nice, but then again, renderings can be deceiving.

What’s your take on the new St. Regis Cap Cana?

Pretty disappointing to see all the dissing of the DR in the comments.
It's a lovely place, and the food is great (not at all-inclusives).
There are plenty of unsafe places everywhere, DR is no different, and if you eat garbage from questionable places, expect to not feel well - anywhere in the world.
I've lived there 50 years and never been 'poisoned'. Not once.
It's also nonsense that you need...

I've lived there 50 years and never been 'poisoned'. Not once.
It's also nonsense that you need protection to wander around at midday, and certainly not in a resort.
The only thing to really worry about in DR is driving, chaotic during the day, and just do not do it at night, especially on the highway.
As with any poorer country, don't flash your stuff and you'll be fine.
As far as Cap Cana is concerned, it's basically not even the DR if you stay inside the truly enormous complex. It's a little far from the rest of Punta Cana for my taste, but if you're going to stay in CC, it's perfectly fine.
That said, for the same 800-1300 bucks a night (or less) you can rent a large villa with 3-4 br and a chef.
I'd never stay at StR, even as a Titanium.

In my opinion the Dominican Republican is best experienced on a cruise. The cruise excursions avoid the unsafe parts of the country and show the main highlights. Cap Cana is most definitely not the same as the all-inclusives. It’s very laid back, not the college scene at all.
Cruises miss Las Terrenas and Bahia de las Aguilas and obviously anything inland.
It’s also not particularly unsafe in any of the tourist areas or most of Santo Domingo. I’m more wary of PR and Barcelona tbh.

TBH I don't understand the brand loyalty StR gets. Every StR experience I've had has been underwhelming and has equally or lesser priced competition in the same town that offers more. Starting to think that StR is just not the brand we're told it is.

"Brand" is a thing that property owners lease. Brand standards are not strictly enforced. Program standards are not strictly enforced. A hundred years ago, when the Astor Family owned the name, it meant something . . . but not today.

Really? You might want to give some a chance outside of N America.

The St Regises in Italy, Thailand, Maldives, Mexico City are all wonderful.

Everyone I know who went to Dominican Republic got food poisoning.

Looks like every other big chain. Why would cover this opening? Very boring.

I try to be open-minded but a) every person I know who has visited the DR has had a horror story of some sort, usually involving theft or robbery (sometimes by hotel employees) and b) I grew up for a time in a very Dominican neighborhood and encountered some of the rudest people on Planet Earth on a regular basis.

    Hard pass.

Very unlikely to be robbed at a st reg

Sure, not at the resort. But just outside the resort, you bet. Went down w/ friends for the cigar expo. Even w/ the benefit of knowing a bunch of fairly prominent families in the area, I was advised not to head out onto the streets w/out protection in midday. And I'm a decently jacked 6'3" male.

This is very different than most of the rest of DR. Cap Cana is a very large and much more upscale (and private) complex. I'm not a big DR fan (though the beaches are spectacular), but this actually does look like a very nice addition and totally safe. Between this and the renovations of Tortuga Bay (the OG down there), it could be a great option for a very easy vacation, especially if you love golf and tennis.

    4. Paul Guest

That’s pretty racist to say that stuff. You don’t know me, but we’ve had some wonderful experiences at Hyatts in the DR

Seems like a very similar look and vibe to the recently opened St Regis Longboat Key in FL.

With that said Punta Cana I personally wouldnt go for more than a couple days, its mainly a beach/pool relaxation place with not much to do outside the enclosed resort

Renderings look nice, but look no further than the reviews of the new Waldorf Astoria Costa Rica for how deceiving they can be.

Stunning renderings indeed. I guess we shall have to wait and see!
