St. Regis will be expanding nicely in the Caribbean in the coming months. In addition to the imminent opening of the St. Regis Aruba, the brand is also opening its first property in the Dominican Republic. Let’s cover the details.
In this post:
Basics of the new St. Regis Cap Cana, Dominican Republic
The St. Regis Cap Cana is accepting reservations for stays as of April 15, 2025. It will be located on the east coast of the Dominican Republic, near Punta Cana.
The property will have 200 keys, including 174 guest rooms and 26 suites. In terms of amenities, the resort will feature four pools, beach access, a spa with 13 treatment rooms, a fitness center, a club for kids, St. Regis butler service, and more. Also near the property will be the 18-hole waterfront Punta Espada golf course, designed by Jack Nicklaus.
The resort will have a staggering nine food and beverage outlets, including Nina (in collaboration with chef Diego Muñoz, open for dinner), Cassava (a Latin American restaurant, open all day), The Amber Room (a rum and cigar bar), Carey Bay Seaside Bar (a casual outdoor restaurant open for lunch and dinner), Kawa Coffee Shop (a coffee and chocolate shop), and more.
Entry level rooms at the St. Regis Cap Cana will start at 560 square feet (50 square meters). Standard suites will start at 1,130 square feet (102 square meters), and some accommodations will even offer direct pool access.
The property has been designed by Chapi Chapo Design, the same firm behind the St. Regis Kanai (in Mexico) and Amanyara (in Turks & Caicos).
Below you can find some renderings of the new St. Regis Cap Cana.
I’m curious, I can’t say that a trip to the Dominican Republic has ever been on my radar. To those who have been, how do you compare it to other Caribbean islands?
St. Regis Cap Cana rates & points requirements
With the St. Regis Cap Cana bookable, what are rates like? Not surprisingly, it’s an expensive property, given proximity to the United States. However, even taking that into account, the rates seem on the very high side, especially in the off season.
Pricing varies a bit by season. Currently I see entry level rooms starting at $800 to $1,000 per night, give or take. However, that’s before the 28% in taxes and service charges, which really increase rates considerably.
If you are going to book a cash stay, I’d highly recommend doing so through the Marriott STARS program. This will score you perks like complimentary breakfast, a $100 food & beverage credit, a room upgrade subject to availability, and more. Ford and his team are happy to help with Marriott STARS bookings for Ritz-Carlton Reserve properties, and can be reached at [email protected].
For those looking to redeem Marriott Bonvoy points, I see rates starting at 104,000 Bonvoy points per night. Keep in mind that you can receive a fifth night free on award redemptions, which will stretch your points even further. This has the potential to be a good redemption option, given that when you’re redeeming points, you don’t have to pay the 28% in taxes and service charges.
Bottom line
The St. Regis Cap Cana, Dominican Republic, is expected to open in April 2025. It’s always nice to have more Caribbean points properties, and I imagine this will be popular with Bonvoy members. The Dominican Republic is largely known for all-inclusive resorts, so it’s interesting to see Marriott bring one of its most luxurious brands there. The property looks pretty nice, but then again, renderings can be deceiving.
What’s your take on the new St. Regis Cap Cana?
Hi Ben,
If you search longer stays (2, 3, 4 and 5 days), the daily rate goes down until it reaches $660 per night booking 5 nights. More than 5 nights gets you the same $660 daily rate. That’s the lowest daily rate you can get as a Marriott Bonvoy member.
Hard to justify a $1000+ per night property, plus the cost of food, when you have all inclusive options for cheaper. Cap Cana is typically a region where most guests stay at the resort the entire time anyway.
St. Regis seems a little too high-end for a destination known for being cheap.
It looks like it is all one giant building. No thanks. This brand is just becoming another Ritz Carlton and that is not good.
Another brand wrecked by Marriott, heading to uninteresting and unimaginative destinations,. Longboat Key. Punta Cana. Los Cabos. Two in Dubai. Two in Abu Dhabi. What’s next, Riviera Maya? Puerto Rico? Macau?
The St. Regis in Puerto Rico is leaving the brand and Marriott. One wonders why. I suppose it was only inevitable that the executives who ruined Ritz-Carlton by turning the once-luxury brand into mostly resort factories or faux luxury properties would also ruin St. Regis.
I have serious doubts that St. Regis can sustain the (formerly?) high standards the brand was defined by with this rapid expansion. Maybe it can in the Dominican Republic because labor is cheap, but in places like Sarasota there just isn't enough staff with the required experience for a 5-star luxury hotel. There are a lot of reports over hugely declining standards, including butlers charging $15 for coffee, at the St. Regis in Washington, D.C.
Sadly agree, glad I jumped ship when I did
