Park Hyatt, which is arguably Hyatt’s most luxurious brand, has a fairly small new property pipeline remaining. So there’s some good news, as a new location has just been announced, for Comporta, Portugal, with an opening expected in 2029. Let’s go over what we know so far.
Park Hyatt Comporta, Portugal, opening 2029
Hyatt and Portuguese real estate developer Coporgest have entered into an agreement for the development, branding, and operation, of Park Hyatt Comporta and Park Hyatt Comporta Residences, expected to open in 2029.
This will be the first Park Hyatt property in Portugal, with Comporta being a coastal destination in the Alentejo region, within an hour drive of Lisbon’s Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS).
Park Hyatt Comporta is currently proposed to include 58 guest rooms and suites, along with six two-bedroom villas and 22 residences, which will be fully serviced, with access to all the amenities and services of the resort.
Current plans also encompass swimming pools, a wellness space with a fitness center and padel court, a kids club, and a collection of restaurants. The hotel will be adjacent to the Troia Golf Course, and a 20-minute ride from four other courses.
It’s worth noting that within the wider Comporta Beach Resort complex, a further 31 villas and 49 apartments will form the Luxury Beach Residents by Corporgest, and those will be marketed and operated by Coporgest. These will be available for private ownership, with owners benefiting from the services and amenities of the Park Hyatt.

As of now I don’t have terribly strong opinions on this resort. Portugal is a beautiful country with a lot to offer, though I’m not usually a huge fan of these resort and home ownership complexes with golf courses and all that fun stuff. It reminds me a bit of the Park Hyatt Marrakech, which is also in a larger complex with a golf course… these aren’t really “destination” resorts.
Personally I wouldn’t count on this project opening anywhere close to on schedule. When we’re talking about projects a few years out, don’t be surprised if there are major delays, or if the project even gets rebranded before opening.
I’ve historically been a big fan of the Park Hyatt brand, but there’s no denying that it’s losing steam in terms of growth and quality. It just seems that unlike with brands like Waldorf Astoria, so much of the Park Hyatt expansion as of late falls short of what you’d expect from a “flagship” brand, like the Park Hyatt London River Thames (which is nice, but has a location that leaves a lot to be desired).
In terms of upcoming properties, we have the Park Hyatt Riviera Maya (which will be all-inclusive, oddly), the Park Hyatt Vancouver (a conversion of an existing hotel), the Park Hyatt Phu Quoc (which has been delayed by eons), the Park Hyatt Mexico City (which I look forward to), and the Park Hyatt Taormina (it’s cool to get a Park Hyatt in Sicily, but the location isn’t good).
Bottom line
The newest location for the Park Hyatt brand has just been announced, and we can expect a property to open in Comporta, Portugal, in 2029. This will be part of a larger beach project, which will include a bunch of residences, some of which will be Park Hyatt branded (while others won’t be).
I’m always happy to see luxury points hotel brands expanding. I look forward to learning more details, because there’s not much as of now…

The restaurants are outrageously expensive without offering the quality you would expect in return.
To be fair, the Park Hyatt Pipeline is actually considerably larger than the ones you’ve listed.
Three in Vietnam, three in China, two in Saudi Arabia, one in Bali. Then there’s also Taipei, Goa, Japan and South Korea properties in the pipeline.
Those renderings are very sad. It looks like a horrifically inappropriate development for what is a beautiful, natural area. Interesting, there was a new opening scheduled for this year which was delayed because 'it caught fire' (rumored as protest arson) - locals are very opposed to the levels of development (which I understand). I visited Comporta last year and loved it. This is just depressing.
Comporta, Portugal has a summer peak ocean temperature of 72F. No thanks!!!
What, too hot for you? How cold do you want the water? I guess you could go to the beach at Lake Superior...
Too cold. I am used to spend summers in Southern Italy where the water average temperature is around 79F.

Eh, 58 high-end, low-density rooms isn't like opening a McDonalds. This actually seems like decent jobs for locals. Besides, there's a Six Senses coming soon, too. (O comboio já passou, pá.)
Comporta is a beautiful place, though it is very much the Hampton's of Lisbon nowadays. Hopefully they do not start overdeveloping it... Sublime Comporta is a wonderful place to spend a few days.

I've only stayed at Park Hyatts in Paris and Vienna (great to burn points there; cash prices are insane, otherwise), and have been inside the one in Milan (Pellico 3 restaurant was pretty good). While I'm not pleased with the Hyatt program's recent devaluations, it is still good to see that they're expanding the premium-end of their portfolio. As for the Alentejo coast, specifically, I'd imagine PH will compete directly with...
