Nicki Minaj Detained At Amsterdam Schiphol Airport Due To Drugs

57

Rapper Nicki Minaj is going on quite the public tirade today, as she has been detained at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS), reportedly over marijuana. As stupid as I think many drug laws are, she’s not exactly coming across as very pleasant here (not that Nicki Minaj is famous for her good manners), and for that matter, can’t even keep her story straight as to who is to blame. Thanks to @thomas199023 for flagging this.

Nicki Minaj’s private jet drug drama

Nicki Minaj has posted dozens of times on X/Twitter in recent hours, after her private jet from Amsterdam to Manchester was searched, and marijuana was reportedly found in the luggage. The rapper is currently on a tour, and performed in Amsterdam on Thursday night, and is supposed to perform in Manchester this evening.

Essentially it seems that her and her team’s luggage was subjected to a quick inspection on departure by police, which is totally standard and legal. Marijuana was found, so then the decision was made to search all the luggage on the plane more thoroughly. At this point she started recording everyone and everything as well, and streaming it online, for her tens of millions of followers.

She can’t seem to keep a consistent narrative, though, as to whether the drugs were planted on her or not. In one post, she explains that “this is how they plant things in your luggage.”

In another post, she claims that “[her] security has already advised them those pre-rolls belong to him.”

Yet in another post, she claims “I’m on the jet alone” (so was there security or not?).

In one video that Nicki Minaj posted online, the private jet pilot can be heard explaining to her that the police is requesting to search all of her luggage. Not only is she recording him and instantly posting it online, but she also seems to be misdirecting her frustration.

For example, when he explains that the police need to search her bags, she says “isn’t that what you planned on doing from the get go?” C’mon, the pilot isn’t at fault here, he’s just following orders from the police. He didn’t plan on doing anything — he’s at the police’s mercy.

This poor pilot. She seems to accuse him of being in on it, saying he’s “smiling from ear to ear.” Seriously?!

In another video, she films a police officer, as he explains that she needs to come to the police station. She refuses to get into the police car until a lawyer is present. Go figure she then also complains how long everything is taking.

It’s important to acknowledge that recreational marijuana is legal in the Netherlands in some situations, but there are still laws against traveling internationally with it. It’s the same as how in the United States, you can’t even travel with marijuana nonstop between two states where it’s legal, given that state and federal laws differ.

Let me be clear — my personal opinion is that laws against marijuana are ridiculously stupid, and the level of criminalization we see of it in so many places defies logic. That being said, the laws are the laws, and if you’re traveling internationally, there can be consequences.

Nicki Minaj claims everyone is out to get her

What’s kind of mind-boggling in this whole situation is the amount of baseless blaming she’s doing of others, not to mention the conspiracies that she’s coming up with.

First of all, she’s convinced that this is a conspiracy against her, and that they’re trying to stall her so that she misses her concert.

She also doesn’t seem to understand that your legal rights are different when you’re just randomly somewhere in the United States, vs. when you’re abroad at an airport. For example, she claims that her bags were taken “without consent.” Immigration officers don’t need consent to search your bags at an international port of entry or departure.

One thing I can’t speak to is that she claims that she recently fired a manager who was reportedly pocketing a lot of money on the private jets he was booking for her, and she claims people are trying to sabotage her tour because it’s successful.

For what it’s worth, it doesn’t appear she has actually been arrested, but rather she has just been asked to provide statements regarding what happened.

The other thing she doesn’t seem to understand is that sticking a camera in everyone’s face and being rude probably won’t help with moving things along quickly. It’s one thing if you’re in the United States in public, but this is a different situation.

Bottom line

Nicki Minaj is causing quite the drama today at Schiphol Airport, after marijuana was found in luggage in her private jet headed for Manchester. While I personally think laws against marijuana are stupid, they still exist, so immigration officers have to enforce them.

Nicki Minaj seems convinced that she was specifically targeted due to her success and because she recently fired a manager. She also can’t seem to keep her story straight as to whether the drugs were planted on her, or whether her security admitted that it belonged to him.

What do you make of this situation?

Customs searched your luggage without consent, huh? Lady, you are dumb. You are really, really dumb.

I came expecting (hoping) to see real aviation stories, like the Saudi Future Aviation Forum 2024, or the ongoing drama of Australian airline Bonza looking for a new buyer. I got TMZ (Ben's Aviation Edition) instead..

When watching a TV program, if it is not to one’s taste then simply tune into another channel.
Therefore, how difficult is it for one to skip past articles which are of no interest?
Honest John, what a load of old codswallop ….

She is an idiot all around. You'd think that someone with this sort of resources is going to have people to advise her correctly... and to miss a concert and very a handful of prerolls is wildly unprofessional.

  7. Crosscourt Guest

Why is this story even in this blog or is it joining force's with TMZ and Access Hollywood? Waste of space.

…. the same might be said of many comments in response to the articles herein ….

Pretty stupid to try international drug smuggling. Idiots get caught on departure at AMS a lot and generally get a slap on the wrist. Different story in U.K. where you will be arrested, detained and get a court hearing and possibly a jail sentence.

I fly AMS-NCL regularly and it’s the only arrival that usually has police standing there profiling the passengers at immigration looking for potential smugglers. She should be thanking the Dutch...

Her refusing to go the Police station until her "lawyer is present" is so American of her. YOU ARE NOT ABOVE OTHER NATIONS LAWS. All these people who constantly whine about America need wake up calls like this, the rest of the world doesn't play your games, sweetie.

    1. Joost Guest

Asking for a lawyer actually makes sense, especially if you are not familiar with local laws.

In the Netherlands, as soon as the suspect arrives at the precinct, she has the right to call for a lawyer and have a private discussion before the police interview starts.

Eventually, the fine she paid was €350 ($380). Less than holding your phone while driving.

Curious if you are a fan of Euro-pappa. I am not a fan of what the EBU and the Swedish authorities did to Joost Klein earlier this month,

Since she is black and a public figure, Biden will come to her rescue like he did with Brittany Greiner.

    1. James Guest

These two events are incomparable and you know that. But any excuse to bring Biden into hey?

    2. Mark Christopher Guest

Yes, you are correct. Greiner is a lesbian so that gave Biden a chance to impress the gay community as well.

    3. GUWonder Guest

Kmar already released her. She paid a fine. The USG didn’t get involved. But don’t let that stop the hypocritical yet always amusing Biden-beating. Remember when Trump actually did get involved in the Swedes’ arresting ASAP Rocky? Biden did no such thing for Nicki Minaj this night and won’t be doing so for her after her arrest by Kmar.

    4. FlyerDon Guest

She’s actually a big Trump supporter.

    5. SadStateofOurNation Guest

Too bad she is not white, male, and carrying a gun instead of pot...fox news and republicans would be all outraged.

Oh, and diaper donnie would promise to release her, but only if he wins the election.

    6. GUWonder Guest

Don the Con in Orange was actually rather involved when ASAP Rocky was under arrest in Sweden during the center left Swedish government at the time. Last I checked ASAP Rocky was “black” and “male”.

    7. Ray Guest

@SadStateofOurNation thank you for shoving @Mark Christopher’s comment right back down his throat.

'It’s important to acknowledge that recreational marijuana is legal in the Netherlands'
Uhmm, it most definitely is not legal.
It is a tolerance policy. So they don't punish it. But it is still a crime. Officially there is a fine attached. There is a policy of non-prosecution, but that is not the same as being legal. There is a longstanding political debate here about whether to legalise it or not. Tolerance does not equal legalisation...

    1. red_robbo Guest

Even if she did think it was OK in the Netherlands, is she really stupid enough to think it would be OK to import into the UK?

  13. Samo Guest

A small correction: Contrary to the popular belief, marijuana is not legal in the Netherlands. The "toleration policy" means that they don't prosecute possession of small quantities, sales in coffeeshops, etc. But it's still illegal and for example if police finds any amount of marijuana in your possession, they will confiscate it on that basis.

The only EU state where marijuana has been legalised is Germany.

    1. Samo Guest

Thanks, I somehow missed that development :)

    What goofball…
“This is how they plant things in your luggage” – 9:44am
    “I’m on the jet alone” – 9:45am
“My security has already advised them those pre-rolls belong to him.” – 10:26am

Nicki – when you are making up a story you have to pick one lie… either it was planted or it was someone else’s on your team.

One thing America is united on... PLEASE do not come back to America!

If convicted, I suggest a condition of parole is to never perform live again in the EU or North America.

Kmar is the government entity that does immigration, police and some other security work.

The following entity does customs and is not Kmar:

    https://www.belastingdienst.nl/wps/wcm/connect/bldcontenten/belastingdienst/customs/about-us/

But at AMS, it’s Kmar that is mostly to be seen. And that is who she ran into. Kmar does the immigration/ emigration control function, but they are more than just immigration at the airport.

    1. James Guest

This such a cliched line on comment sections.

  18. GUWonder Guest

She’s better off that the drug stop happened in AMS rather than in MAN. Even if assuming the “pre-roll” marijuana is not hers but that of an associated traveler.

Could the pilot have wanted the search before departing and called it in? Yes, it’s possible. Did it happen that way this time? Who knows.

I was trying to find her flight on Flightradar but so far could not find anything.
Okay, so the initial flight was cancelled. But shouldn’t it still show on flightradar?

What I also find interesting is that her flight was scheduled just a couple hours before the concert. What would’ve been her plan B in case of airplane closure?

I would’ve thought that she leaves Amsterdam early in the morning (so she could still take a ferry or drive to a different country to catch a flight from there)

    1. Klaus_S Member

It seems like she was released at 21:50 central European time and will be flying with OY-SPA to Paris.

    2. red_robbo Guest

No - she flew on it to Manchester, not Paris.
And there wouldn't habeen a realistic Plan B - surface transport from Amsterdam to Manchester would take full day - impossible to arrive in time for a concert that same evening, unless you left Amsterdam in the early hours. As this would have been way earlier than Plan A, it wouldn't really be an option, would it?

    3. GUWonder Guest

She was in Manchester at her hotel in the wee hours of Sunday morning. So she must have arrived in Manchester on Saturday night or so very early this Sunday morning that it was still dark outside.

She apologized to her fans for messing up their paid-for Saturday evening entertainment plans, but access to a rescheduled concert won’t make everyone whole from the no-show/no show at MAN last night.

  20. Icarus Guest

She said they took her baggage without permission. No. They are allowed to.

And contrary to what she thinks, there are laws in the Netherlands regarding marijuana as there are in the US

  21. Icarus Guest

Respect other country’s laws. She probably assumes no one will check as she’s a DYKWIA. Also makes the situation by filming and posting. Imagine if this was Singapore or Dubai.

    1. Pete Guest

In Dubai or Singapore she'd be in prison right now. The Singaporeans would keep her in custody until fronting court on Monday, when a judge would decide if she gets bail or not. Either way, they wouldn't be leaving the country until it was sorted out. As for getting arrested in the UAE because of drugs on the airplane... Nah, not good. Singapore would be preferable.
