For the first time in nearly a quarter century, Lufthansa is planning on introducing new employee uniforms…
In this post:
Lufthansa employee uniform refresh coming soon
Every so often, we see airlines overhaul their employee uniforms, to reflect updated branding, and also to modernize. In the case of Lufthansa, employees at the airline have had the same uniforms since early 2002. At this point they feel quite dated, though I’ve gotta say, there’s a certain charm to all of it.
Maybe this is the area where I’m a Lufthansa fanboy, but I grew up flying Lufthansa to Germany to visit family, and there’s something about flying with the airline that reminds me of my childhood… and that includes that nothing has changed with the uniforms since I was a pre-teen!
There’s something I find very calming about the below safety video… I’m not going to lie, I sometimes just play it in the background for… well, absolutely no good reason.
Anyway, the current uniforms won’t be around much longer. As reported by aeroTELEGRAPH, Lufthansa will soon be introducing new uniforms for all of its employee groups, designed by Hugo Boss, and we’ll start to get our first sense of these next week. Per a Lufthansa spokesperson:
“Lufthansa is currently testing the new uniform for comfort, fit, and functionality, paying particular attention to the sustainability of the materials. Starting September 1, 2025, selected employees will test advanced uniform components in regular use in the cabin, cockpit, and on the ground for four months. However, the form and timing of the uniform components now being tested will be introduced remains to be seen.”
So there’s going to be a test phase of four months, and then it’s anyone’s guess when these will actually be rolled out. Since we’re talking about Lufthansa, I think roughly seven years to start the rollout sounds about right, though don’t worry, the Skytrax five-star uniform rating will show up early. 😉

In all honestly, employee uniforms aren’t just about looks, but they also have to be comfortable and functional. Over the years, we’ve seen airlines have a countless number of challenges when it comes to uniform rollouts, so airlines have become much more careful with these rollouts over time.
What I’m expecting from a Lufthansa uniform refresh
We don’t yet have any details about Lufthansa’s new uniforms. However, I think we have a general clue of the direction things will go. Keep in mind that in 2015, Lufthansa updated its livery. The airline went from its blue and yellow livery…

…to being just more focused on blue.

When you look at Lufthansa’s current uniforms, they kind of reflect the old livery, with the shades of yellow.

I could be totally wrong, but I’d expect fewer yellow accents, and perhaps a slightly lighter shade of blue. I’m not expecting anything super modern or edgy, like at Aegean Airlines or Riyadh Air, since Lufthansa has a very diversified workforce. It needs to be a uniform that would look good on both someone’s grandmother or grandfather, and also on someone’s daughter or son.
Given the partnership with Hugo Boss, I think it’ll just be something that looks clean, modern, and reasonably high-end. But I guess we’ll find out soon enough…
Bottom line
As of September 2025, Lufthansa will begin testing new employee uniforms, representing the first uniform refresh since early 2002. The uniforms are designed in partnership with Hugo Boss, and we should learn the details soon. Lufthansa’s uniforms definitely feel a bit outdated at this point, so a refresh feels appropriate.
What are you expecting from Lufthansa’s new uniforms?
So funny how everyone is posting this false information just because one newspaper page posted it .
Hugo Boss unis makes sense, considering how Lufthansa treats their passengers. Einhalten!
Given Hugo Boss' past history with designing uniforms linked to Germany, they might want to rethink this one...
Funny how that safety video brings you back! As a kid half my family lived in Alaska and half in New Zealand (hence “FrozenKiwi”) and being loyal Alaska Airlines flyers (at the time and maybe soon to be again…) we would fly Qantas. So anytime I hear the “I still call Australia Home” song I get goose bumps and every so often a tear. It makes me laugh how a song about Australia makes me most home sick for New Zealand.
Haha…that safety video is on my playlist as well.
Also in my playlist: „ Lufthansa classic "No better way to fly" theme - vocal“, „ Lufthansa classic "No better way to fly" theme - instrumental“ and „Music Them Lufthansa“…
…and the Lufthansa slogans show how the airline evolved:
„No better way to fly" was replaced by "Nonstop you" in 2012, as the latter was the new, customer-focused slogan that focused on the experience of the traveler. Then it was „Say yes to the world“ since 2018 until 2024.
Nowadays the slogans are „YES“ which evolved into "Every Story Starts with a Yes" and later "The World Says Yes to You,“.
But I’m sure they will be overengineered, hated by staff, and years late in launch.
You know who else Hugo Boss designed uniforms for…?
Wonder if the new uniforms will come with leather overcoats, eh
Yes. They are still are hands down the best looking uniforms in that area.
Miami Vice actors looked also good with Hugo Boss clothes but still not good as the guys from the history.
wow, I had no idea they designed some 'other' uniform collection in the past...
@Ray:
Not quite sure what’s your point. Basically any German company that existed before 1945 has cooperated/collaborated with the Nazis. Volkswagen, Mercedes, Bayer, Merck, Hugo Boss, Lufthansa. You name it. Yet, they all still exist and even those whose ancestors were victims of the Nazis use them.
Bet they did this to push down those other results down when you google “hugo boss uniforms”
Lufthansa’s current uniforms are just fine.
If anything, Lufthansa crews always look very elegant in these uniforms.
This will be absolutely amazing
