While this is pretty niche, a former Marriott in Jakarta has just become a Hyatt, and I’m pretty excited about it. I first wrote about this several months ago, but wanted to provide an update, as the hotel has just opened.
In this post:
Basics of Keraton at The Plaza Jakarta
Keraton at The Plaza Jakarta has joined Hyatt’s Unbound Collection, which is one of Hyatt’s “soft” brands for unique properties. The 138-room hotel has opened as of late December 2024, so is welcoming its first guests.
You’re probably thinking “so what, who cares about a random hotel opening in Jakarta?” Well, there are two things that make this noteworthy.
For one, Keraton at The Plaza used to be a Marriott Luxury Collection property (and prior to that, a Starwood Luxury Collection property). I actually stayed here during my 2017 visit to Jakarta. The property closed in early 2020, around the start of the pandemic, so it’s interesting to see it reopening now, nearly five years later.
I’m not sure what happened there. Did it just remain closed due to lack of business at the time? Has the property been fully renovated? There’s very little info out there as of now, though I’m sure we’ll learn more once there are some stay reports.
Second, what makes this property special is that it’s an all-club hotel. We’re all familiar with the concept of hotel club lounges, but this hotel takes it to the next level, and has a club lounge for all guests. Back when I stayed, there was a restaurant for breakfast, and then guests could order unlimited food in the club lounge throughout the day, from an expansive menu. Almost think of it like an all-inclusive, except you’re in a city business hotel, rather than a resort.
Keraton at The Plaza Jakarta rates & points requirements
With Keraton at The Plaza Jakarta now open and accepting reservations, what are rates like?
For those redeeming points, this is a Category 5 World of Hyatt property, meaning a free night redemption in a standard room costs 17,000-23,000 points per night. Meanwhile a free night redemption in a standard suite costs 29,000-35,000 points per night.
As far as cash rates go, I currently see them starting at around $200 per night thanks to an opening offer, though they go up from there (long term, it seems rates are supposed to start closer to $300 per night). Jakarta is an amazing value hotel market, but even by that standard, this is quite a good deal currently, given all that’s included.
Hyatt’s Jakarta footprint is impressive
I’m planning a trip to Jakarta in the near future for a review trip (I’ll let y’all guess which product I’m looking to review), and I plan to visit Jakarta for a few days. Jakarta is of course an excellent value luxury hotel city, at least from an international perspective. Just about all the city’s top hotels are available for $200-300 per night.
As someone who is most loyal to World of Hyatt, I can’t help but point out how great Hyatt’s portfolio is:
- I’ve heard the Park Hyatt Jakarta is incredible, and I absolutely plan on staying there
- The Alila SCBD Jakarta seems to get generally positive reviews, though isn’t to the same level as the Park Hyatt; the hotel also has an evening happy hour for Globalist members
- The Grand Hyatt Jakarta has undergone a renovation, and it seems like both the updated rooms and the club are pretty great
Now we’re going to have yet another option, in the form of Keraton at The Plaza. Talk about being spoiled with choice. For that matter, I’m also really intrigued by the Ritz-Carlton Jakarta Pacific Place, which is the world’s only all-club Ritz-Carlton, as well as the St. Regis Jakarta.
To those more familiar with Jakarta than me, I’m curious which property you’d stay at in addition to the Park Hyatt? I guess it doesn’t even have to be a Hyatt, and could belong to another brand…
Bottom line
Keraton at The Plaza Jakarta has opened as of late December 2024, as a Hyatt Unbound Collection property, after being closed for nearly five years. This is a unique property, as it’s an all-club hotel, meaning all guests receive unlimited food and drinks in the lounge throughout the day.
Hyatt has quite the portfolio of premium and luxury properties in Jakarta, and I can’t wait to check them out soon.
What do you make of Keraton at The Plaza Jakarta?
Please do a review of the Langham Jakarta. Skip the RC Pacific Place, it's basically a high-end dorm with excellent services but cramped and not very aesthetically appealing public spaces
You’ll be going there to review Park Hyatt Jakarta, obviously.
Although I like a hotel lounge as much as the next guy, I would not want the extra cost of a lounge built into my room rate as I cannot always use or benefit from that lounge.
So I prefer the option of paying less for a room without lounge access if I know I won't be using that lounge.
Also part of the fun of a lounge is that it is exclusive. But it is not exclusive if every guest in the hotel is using it, plus their guests, friends and gate-crashers.
After multiple visits to the GH JKT , I just cancelled my next upcoming week there .
The rooms have bare floors and unless you enjoy the sound of unpadded furniture scraping above already low ceilings, bring earplugs. Newly renovated? Shower doors that leak. AC completely unregulated. One stay the lights went on themselves t 3 and 4 AM. the next stay it was the TV going on by itself 5 nights , even...

The rooms have bare floors and unless you enjoy the sound of unpadded furniture scraping above already low ceilings, bring earplugs. Newly renovated? Shower doors that leak. AC completely unregulated. One stay the lights went on themselves t 3 and 4 AM. the next stay it was the TV going on by itself 5 nights , even after supposedly being fixed- unplugging it seemed to work better than the maintenance . The club lounge is either zoo or a nursery depending on your perspective- screaming children running and crying infants - not unlike the GH KL. The food and alcohol is pedestrian at best!
location is excellent if you want to stay in a mall, otherwise everything is a grab ride away.
Forget upgrades at the Keraton !
Visit the club lounge at the GH and decide if you want an all club hotel !
The Ritz Carlton and JW, not only cheaper than your quoted 200-300 $ price range but so much more superior in quality and spaciousness of rooms.
Shangri la much better value than Hyatt,
As is Hotel Mulia, a beautiful hotel with exceptionally spacious rooms.
I have elite status at Hyatt, Hilton and Marriott, and have stayed primarily at Hyatt exclusively for the past 3 years.
I have come to realize it is the hotel , not the brand , be it Asia, Africa or elsewhere !!
Mandarin Oriental Jakarta has been a good luxury mainstay for a while. They recently updated the food side of things, although the Spa side is under renovation right now; hopefully done by the time you go.
I think the more interesting question is why there are multiple all-club hotels in Jakarta? I guess it works for that city.
