While this is pretty niche, a former Marriott in Jakarta will become a Hyatt, and I’m pretty excited about it. I first wrote about this several months ago, but the hotel has now started accepting reservations, so we know the opening date and rates.
In this post:
Basics of Keraton at The Plaza Jakarta
Keraton at The Plaza Jakarta is expected to join Hyatt’s Unbound Collection, which is one of Hyatt’s “soft” brands for unique properties. The 138-room hotel is accepting reservations for stays as of February 5, 2025.
You’re probably thinking “so what, who cares about a random hotel opening in Jakarta?” Well, there are two things that make this noteworthy.
For one, Keraton at The Plaza used to be a Marriott Luxury Collection property (and prior to that, a Starwood Luxury Collection property). I actually stayed here during my 2017 visit to Jakarta. The property closed in early 2020, around the start of the pandemic, so it’s interesting to see it reopening now, nearly five years later.
I’m not sure what happened there. Did it just remain closed due to lack of business at the time? Has the property been fully renovated? There’s very little info out there as of now, though I’m sure we’ll learn more as the opening date approaches.
Second, what makes this property special is that it’s an all-club hotel. We’re all familiar with the concept of hotel club lounges, but this hotel takes it to the next level, and has a club lounge for all guests. Back when I stayed, there was a restaurant for breakfast, and then guests could order unlimited food in the club lounge throughout the day, from an expansive menu.
Almost think of it like an all-inclusive, except you’re in a city business hotel, rather than a resort. Hyatt refers to this as an “all-club hotel,” so it sounds like this concept is sticking around, even when the hotel reopens.
Keraton at The Plaza Jakarta rates & points requirements
With Keraton at The Plaza Jakarta now accepting reservations, what are rates like?
For those redeeming points, this will be a Category 5 World of Hyatt property, meaning a free night redemption in a standard room will cost 17,000-23,000 points per night. Meanwhile a free night redemption in a standard suite will cost 29,000-35,000 points per night.
As far as cash rates go, I currently see them starting at around $300 per night, though they go up from there. That’s a bit steep by Jakarta standards, but then again, given the all-club concept, the value could be quite decent.
Hyatt’s Jakarta footprint is impressive
I’m planning a trip to Jakarta in the near future for a review trip (I’ll let y’all guess which product I’m looking to review), and I plan to visit Jakarta for a few days. Jakarta is of course an excellent value luxury hotel city, at least from an international perspective. Just about all the city’s top hotels are available for $200-300 per night.
As someone who is most loyal to World of Hyatt, I can’t help but point out how great Hyatt’s portfolio is:
- I’ve heard the Park Hyatt Jakarta is incredible, and I absolutely plan on staying there
- The Alila SCBD Jakarta seems to get generally positive reviews, though isn’t to the same level as the Park Hyatt; the hotel also has an evening happy hour for Globalist members
- The Grand Hyatt Jakarta has undergone a renovation, and it seems like both the updated rooms and the club are pretty great
Now we’re going to have yet another option, in the form of Keraton at The Plaza. I guess I need to get to Jakarta before this hotel opens, or else I’ll just be too overwhelmed with choice. For that matter, I’m also really intrigued by the Ritz-Carlton Jakarta Pacific Place, which is the world’s only all-club Ritz-Carlton.
To those more familiar with Jakarta than me, I’m curious which property you’d stay at in addition to the Park Hyatt? I guess it doesn’t even have to be a Hyatt, and could belong to another brand…
Bottom line
Keraton at The Plaza Jakarta is now accepting reservations for stays as of February 2025, as a Hyatt Unbound Collection property, after being closed for nearly five years. This is a unique property, as it’s an all-club hotel, meaning all guests receive unlimited food and drinks in the lounge throughout the day.
Hyatt has quite the portfolio of premium and luxury properties in Jakarta, and I can’t wait to check them out soon.
What do you make of Keraton at The Plaza Jakarta?
PH has received raving reviews from what I can gather. In addition to that, I would recommend either the Ritz-Carlton Pacific Place or Keraton at The Plaza. Both of these hotels are linked to high-end shopping malls, but more importantly, they're close to MRT stations. You'll understand the value of this when you're stuck in the notoriously congested Jakarta traffic.
The Pullman Jakarta is also near an MRT stop, but not linked to any malls....

The Pullman Jakarta is also near an MRT stop, but not linked to any malls. They *do* have 2-Michelin star Sushi Ichi inside, though. The Kempinski meets the criteria, but they haven't been renovated in a hot minute.
If everyone can use the lounge then it just becomes an extra charge that is embedded in the quoted room price. And that can come at a cost of maybe $100 a night extra.
And it feels less exclusive if all guests can use the lounge.
If you want to try new properties, 25hours will open their 2nd property in Jakarta (after Dubai) under Accor
I will recommend Park Hyatt, St Regis, Four Seasons, The Langham, Fairmont
I know the location is not exactly central but I was extremely impressed by the Intercontinental Pondok Indah. Excellent club and club rooms! Impeccable staff and service and the food options top notch!
I thought the breakfast at the St. Regis was fantastic when I stayed last November. Otherwise, the hotel was nothing special and felt like it was geared towards business/conference traffic. We also spent a night at the Four Seasons, which was a disappointment. We could smell the pollution from inside the room. Breakfast, while high quality, was limited and not as good as the St. Regis.
Ritz have very good location, huge rooms but nothing special. Langham has the best location and one of the newest, the hotel is very chic. St.r is a major renovated ex Regent Jakarta. PH is luxurious but its location is away from any actions.
There were some suicide bombings at jw Marriott and ritz Carlton in Jakarta in the 2000s.
Langham or the new St Regis (where coldplay stayed at) and pls try Garuda Indonesia a330neo or a330ceo with super diamond config while you are on your way here!
The PH has been on my list of must try hotels for a while. Planning to stay in January. I've heard the artwork and design are spectacular. Afternoon tea is highly rated. I stayed at Karaton many years ago. It's directly attached to Plaza Indonesia Mall. Rooms are really nice. Not sure if I'd want full meals because I'd pass up opportunities to try outside restaurants.
PH is great, but I prefer the breakfast at the St.R. Both solid choices
Ritz sounds intriguing
Great city to use FHR credits, can have a free stay at The Langham if you have FHR credits
I've stayed at both the Ritz and JW both in Mega Kuningan. Over the top security, Both are great hotels, preference to the Ritz.
There are a few problems in Jakarta. First, getting there from the USA is not easy. Second, the traffic in the city is horrendous. Third, if you drink, imported wine is expensive due to high taxes (at least that's what I have gathered from talking with people in Indonesia). It's so bad that there's at least one wine producer from Australia who ships juice to Indonesia and then produces wine in Indonesia as Indonesian wine.
I’m going to Jakarta next spring and the hotels are certainly tempting. It’s hard to choose but I’m leaning towards Raffles.
Langham and IC are both great. Langham 's location is pretty tough to beat as it's one of the few spots in a walkable area of Jakarta
