In December 2026, JetBlue will finally start rolling out its new first class product, which will eventually be installed on aircraft without the carrier’s Mint business class. The airline had indicated that elite members would be eligible for complimentary space available upgrades to this product, and we now have all the details.
How JetBlue’s first class upgrades for elites will work
JetBlue will introduce unlimited complimentary space available first class upgrades, coinciding with the airline rolling out first class:
- Complimentary upgrades will be available to all TrueBlue Mosaic elite members, as well as those with the JetBlue Premier Card, including authorized users, even if they don’t have elite status (this assumes they pay for the trip with the card)
- Upgrades will also be available for up to one companion traveling on the same reservation (reservations with three or more people on them won’t be eligible for upgrades, even for the member)
- Upgrades will start clearing on a space available basis 60 minutes before departure, in the order that members are listed on the upgrade list
- In order to be upgrade eligible, passengers must book an eligible fare, including Main, Main Flex, EvenMore, or EvenMore Flex, whether booked with cash or points; this means only Main Base and EvenMore Base fares are excluded
- There’s no need to request an upgrade, as eligible members will automatically be added to the upgrade waitlist
- The JetBlue app will have an upgrade waitlist, where travelers can see their position on the list
- United MileagePlus Premier members are not eligible for upgrades on JetBlue, despite the partnership between the two airlines
Below is a chart with the order in which JetBlue upgrades will clear.
| JetBlue upgrade priority | JetBlue traveler group |
|---|---|
| 1 | Mosaic 4 |
| 2 | Mosaic 3 |
| 3 | Mosaic 2 |
| 4 | Mosaic 1 |
| 5 | JetBlue Premier card members without status |
Within each group, JetBlue upgrade priority will further be determined with the following order:
- Using a JetBlue credit card to pay for your trip
- Purchase of an EvenMore fare (excluding EvenMore Base)
- Tiles earned during the current program year

This is a huge boost to the value of JetBlue TrueBlue
I think JetBlue’s introduction of first class will materially improve the carrier’s performance over time. Now, I do think a trip into Chapter 11 bankruptcy is almost inevitable, given that the carrier is approaching a staggering $10 billion in debt, and that’s just not going to be serviceable in the long run.
But in terms of operating performance and the overall revenue from JetBlue TrueBlue, I think the full rollout of first class will be the start of a change for JetBlue:
- JetBlue is efficiently reconfiguring its planes to reduce legroom in standard economy while adding a new premium seating option, so this should result in a significant revenue boost per flight
- Introducing first class upgrades will make it more tempting to go for JetBlue TrueBlue status, and it’s also smart how JetBlue is making upgrades a credit card perk
- When you combine this with JetBlue now having lounges in Boston (BOS) and New York (JFK), there’s a lot more potential to actually win premium travel
Now, some might be frustrated that upgrades will clear only at most 60 minutes before departure, while other airlines offer upgrades days in advance. That’s fair, though to be realistic:
- How often do upgrades really clear at the initial upgrade window with American, Delta, and United, if they clear at all?
- JetBlue’s first class cabins will be quite small, and with so much of the carrier’s network being centered up and down the East Coast, I think the airline will have no problem selling most of these seats
- If you’re only going to upgrade one or two people, I actually think it’s sort of fair to wait until 60 minutes before departure, so that you don’t penalize those who book expensive, last minute economy tickets

Bottom line
JetBlue is rolling out unlimited first complimentary first class upgrades for elite members and those with the carrier’s most premium credit card. Upgrades will be available for companions as well, and only basic fares won’t qualify.
Upgrades will clear 60 minutes before departure, and the upgrade priority is roughly what you’d expect, with the Mosaic tier being the top factor determining eligibility, followed by use of a JetBlue credit card, booking an EvenMore fare, and then the number of Tiles earned.
What do you make of JetBlue’s new first class upgrade program?
Weak sauce compared to United and American, and still wouldn't make me compromise my entire moral fiber and fly the Avatar of Neelzebub.
Again, what's the back-story with your hatred for B6 (and DL)?
Darn. Knew I shoulda done that '25 for 25' promo... Anyone pull that off on here?
