Jerk Gets Fired For American Airlines Rant

Jerk Gets Fired For American Airlines Rant

35

We see quite a few people having meltdowns on planes (not as many as earlier in the pandemic, but still). This one is oddly satisfying, in terms of the person getting what they deserve…

American Airlines passenger goes on racist & homophobic rant

On Tuesday, a man was traveling on an American Airlines flight from Philadelphia (PHL) to Dallas (DFW). He ended up being removed from the plane, as he was allegedly “inappropriate” toward the woman seated next to him.

When it was decided that he would be removed from the plane, the man had a meltdown. He allegedly repeatedly and loudly used the “n-word” toward the flight attendant, and that’s when the video recording started.

The guy went on an epic rant at this point, while acknowledging that he was a “little” intoxicated:

  • “Are you going to kick me off this f*cking flight with all these f*ggots?”
  • “It’s a black f*cking bag, yeah obviously I’m a white man who picked a black f*cking bag because I’m racist.”
  • “I’ll get off the f*cking plane with you liberal f*ggots.”
  • “I hope all you liberal f*ggots f*cking crash the f*cking plane you f*cking f*ggots.”
  • “I’m a chemical engineer, I work for GlaxoSmithKline. I’m about to quit the f*cking job this week, reach out to the company, one of the f*ggots companies in the world.”

You can see the video for yourself below (though it obviously has bad language, so watch it at your own discretion).

My two takeaways from this incident

Huge credit to the American Airlines flight attendants for how they handled this situation. They deescalated the conflict and were incredibly calm, even though this guy continued to cross the line, verbally assaulting the flight attendant.

All too often we see crews escalate situations or get on the passenger’s level, but that’s not the case here. I hope American recognizes the flight attendants for how they acted here, and uses this as an example of how crews should handle situations.

Next, it’s interesting that within a few days of the incident, GlaxoSmithKline announced that this particular employee is no longer employed at the company. Admittedly he claimed he was planning on quitting the following week — whether or not that was true is unknown.

In general I’m hesitant to share stories like this, since often people have some sort of mental health situation that causes them to act out of order.

In this case the guy acknowledges he’s “a bit drunk,” and at the end of the day alcohol often brings out the truth. I’m pretty confident that his hate speech reflects how he really feels, even if he has to cover it up most of the time. You don’t just go on homophobic and racist tirades for no reason. That’s not normal.

I also don’t understand when people try to “flex” their jobs while going on an embarrassing rant like this? Like, is he trying to point out he’s a classy and well-paid racist and homophobe, or how exactly is his career choice a defense for his actions?

Bottom line

A man was removed from an American Airlines flight after making several racist and homophobic comments. While the man admitted he was drunk, that of course doesn’t excuse his behavior, and clearly he has some issues related to race and sexual orientation.

This guy deserved to be fired. He claims he was planning on quitting anyway, though hopefully this behavior is brought to the attention of wherever he works next.

It's really too bad that he apparently only knows about 20 words, most of them demeaning. There is no question between him and the women that he is talking to, who is more intelligent and respectable. I applaud his company and I'm sure this was not the first incident that he caused showing his true person to his employer. Narcissistic bigots like this don't think there is anything wrong with the way they feel, so they have no need to hide it.

  2. Jim Guest

Fortunately I have never seen this type of behavior on Delta. The airline seems to attract people who know how to behave themselves in a respectable manner.

Wow, you sure took the topic sideways just to insert your criticism of Biden and student loan forgiveness!

so sad. just... so sad. I hope he gets some help as a result of all this.

Was this lowlife piece of worthless dirt ever arrested?

    He quit, not fired.

But apparently he doesn’t appreciate GSK.

    1. plmiller Guest

Creditlan, he was *planning* to quit but didn't get the chance to before GSK abused him of that notion.

"I also don’t understand when people try to “flex” their jobs while going on an embarrassing rant like this?"

Well, if one is going to go on an embarrassing rant, one might as well go all out. I mean, you already mentioned that he was drunk, so that's a pretty good explanation. Drunks aren't generally known for their moderation.

So some low life was drunk on a plane . Everyone in 2022 has a phone that can record videos. Who gives a shit ? If you care about this guys opinions you may want to explore your own insecurities.

D3kingg It's not about insecurities. It's about hate. How we address it through awareness and into the future.

Why is everyone cheering a guy getting fired for being an idiot off the clock? I have no idea how valuable he is to Glaxo, but we should all hold on before insisting on someone losing their job for being a moron on video.

Does one automatically get fired after a DUI or any other misdemeanor? I don't think so.

Just because a moron gets recorded doesn't mean he/she should lose their job. I...

Just because a moron gets recorded doesn't mean he/she should lose their job. I would think most of the stone throwers here have had unflattering moments in life that never went viral.

If you are being serious, here is a reply:

      1) The guy talked about his company publicly, so he made it his company's business

      2) The guy's comments demonstrate deep racist, homophobic and sexist beliefs... No matter how drunk you are, throwing around slurs like that indicate you think like that while sober too. Companies don't want to employ hardcore bigots.

"Just because a moron gets recorded doesn't mean he/she should lose their job" - are you effing kidding me?

First off he was being a racist and homophobic POS. And then he name drops his employer. Guess what:
Try doing something similar and include your employer's name and see what happens?
OR Imagine you have a business and one of your employees does this and mentions your business name. Would you give him a mulligan?

      Think before posting!

    3. EBWaa Guest

“Unflattering moments” give me a break.

I get that defending the indefensible is the order of the day with some people but if this is the kind of trash you defend I can only assume you’re trash too.

If one had an “unflattering moment” like this, then one deserves to be fired. I hope, you don’t have kids. And if you do, you reevaluate your life choices. This behavior is absolutely a fireable offense, and if you think it’s not, you need immediate help.

    5. Eskimo Guest

      @Ole

As much as you hope this person doesn't have kids. Loss of Roe v. Wade guarantee your odds are worse. Can't wait to see how ugly it gets 15 years from now.

  12. Anthony Diamond

TMZ has two additional videos of him throwing racial slurs, threatening to shoot and stab people, and ultimately being detained. Nice way to ruin your employment prospects forever.

    He seems pretty gay.

    Self-loathing, but gay.

  14. Billy Bob Guest

He needed to get a few sexist comments in there too. Then he's have hit the trifecta.

    1. Naomi Guest

Well, remember that he started out by being "inappropriate" to the woman sitting beside him in the first place... and in my experience, it takes pretty extreme inappropriate behavior to get someone removed from a plane. So I think he managed to hit sexist by that route. Groping the woman next to you is sexist behavior.

  15. Lee Guest

Is he saying that it's okay for conservative f*ggots to remain on the plane? You know, like the child molesting GOP congressman Mark Foley. Or, is he saying that it's okay for liberal heteros to remain on the plane. I'm just not sure.

    1. Nikki Guest

I get the joke, but you do realize child molesters and homosexuals are not the same, right?

  16. Jarrett Guest

Did I hear the flight attendant say something quickly in the video to the person recording about no phones (meaning no recording)? I may have easily misheard it, but if they did say that, this must be the third or fourth time I've seen a flight attendant tell a passenger to stop recording when all it was doing was helping. Not only the airline, but helping us all.

    1. Alicia Guest

it's against the American Airlines' contract of carriage to record any employee at work.
