Israir Plane Damaged At London Airport For Third Time In A Year: Foul Play?

Sometimes planes get damaged at airports, given the complexity of operations. However, planes belonging to Israeli carrier Israir have been damaged so frequently at one airport that foul play is suspected…

Israir plane damaged at London Luton Airport… again!

Israeli aviation officials are suspecting foul play over a recent incident at London Luton Airport (LTN). Specifically, very early in the morning on Friday, July 17, 2026, Israir flight 6H116 was scheduled to operate to Tel Aviv (TLV), flown by an Airbus A320 with the registration code YR-ADC.

However, the plane was damaged by a tug while being towed, ahead of its takeoff. That left passengers stranded on the plane for an extended period of time, with some passengers reportedly needing medical attention, due to lack of air conditioning. They ended up staying on the plane for around two hours, before being informed the flight was canceled.

One might not think much of this, except for the fact that this was the third instance of the carrier’s planes being damaged at the airport in less than a year.

The belief is that this damage was caused maliciously, with “nationalistic” intent, and Israeli authorities are calling on their counterparts in the United Kingdom to conduct an investigation to determine if this was in fact the case.

Israir has blamed the airport for this, explaining that “to our knowledge, no orderly investigation has been carried out by the airport’s management into these incidents.”

Following the flight cancelation, some passengers were accommodated at nearby hotels, while others were rebooked on other flights. Sabbath observant travelers largely remained in London throughout the weekend, given that this flight took place on a Friday morning.

An Israir plane was damaged at London Luton Airport

It seems reasonable to investigate the cause of this

Mistakes in airport operations absolutely do happen. However, if an airline operates five weekly flights to an airport and there’s damage on three planes in less than a year, that does seem like an unusually high percentage of the time for things to go wrong.

We don’t have full context on what kind of damage was involved in the last two incidents. Furthermore, I can’t help but wonder what exactly a tug driver sabotage situation would look like, in terms of intentionally damaging a plane during pushback.

The damage didn’t seem to be that bad, based on the fact that the plane was flying again within less than a day. Instead of the initially scheduled 1:15AM departure, it departed at 6:38PM the same day.

Of course there’s antisemitism out there, and it even impacts the aviation industry. Whether or not that’s the case here, though, remains to be seen. But yeah, it does seem like authorities in the UK should at least investigate this, and determine if there was any foul play.

Israeli airlines have definitely faced some attacks

Bottom line

An Israir Airbus A320 was damaged at London Luton Airport for the third time in under a year. The most recent incident involved an airport tug, causing the flight to be canceled. Mistakes happen, though an airline flying just five times weekly to an airport shouldn’t see damage three times in under a year. That’s why Israeli authorities are suspecting foul play, and are calling on authorities in the UK to investigate.

I think the only other question is just how significant this damage was — we have a sense of the last incident, but what about the two before that? Are we talking about minor scratches, or…?

What do you make of this Israir situation at Luton Airport?

The question for me is whether or not this kind of accident has happened to other airlines at this airport over the same time period. From what I found on Google, it seems that the only incidents such as this one at Luton Airport over the last year has been with Israir planes

To me that's what feels super duper suspicious. If the ground crew staff at that airport were just bad drivers/machine operators and these incidents had started happening over the last year to other airlines then sure, it was just another accident at an airport with some tarmac safety issues (which obviously need to be addressed). When it happens 3 times to only one airline's planes is when things start to feel real fishy

Living in London now reminds me of 1969 in America where racial tensions were at the highest level.
London and the UK the pot is starting to boil, everyday in the news there is another incident.
It seems that the more bombs Israel drops on civilians in Palestine and Lebanon, taking their lands, having land sales in London for the Israeli settlers overtaking Palestinian farmers lands by force, with IDF soldiers in support...

These are just facts. I don't like any of it. I suppose anyone with a conscience would not like it either. Its getting hot.

Racial tensions in the UK are not getting hot because of grooming gangs, beheadings and the cops letting white kids die while their assailants walk free?
The racial tensions in the UK are about Jews, who make up a tiny portion of the UK population, have been extremely loyal subjects and VERY successful/contributors to the UK's culture, economy and technological success?

      Sure, Jan.

Literal domestic beheadings. Literal rapes. Literal race murders. And Gaza...

Living in America in the 60s, I know that 1968 in America had racial tensions at the highest level. I have no comment on the remainder of the post, as I stopped reading at that point.

This comes to mind, you've commented before, here and elsewhere, that you deliberately (pretend to) 'not read' certain 'commenters' (myself included, so, I guess you won't see this... *wink*) and, now, apparently, certain 'portions' of certain comments. Why even bother saying that? Like, are you merely celebrating 'not-reading,' or are you claiming that not-reading makes you wiser? Anyway, how 'nice' that you were firsthand witness to a challenging time in American history; clearly, this makes...

Good on you for disengaging entirely, refusing the validate anything, or address topics at-hand. *slow clap*

Rogers Waters of Pink Floyd has explained that hotels (a travel column here) in Buenos Aires, Ecuador, and several other South American countries, he could not stay in hotels, turned down because of his free speech.
He was cancelled completely in Poland. This man flies around the world doing concerts, staying in hotels, using airlines, yet somehow he is getting blocked out due to his free speech.

Like Vance said,"US is pretty much the only Friend Israel has left due to their actions in creating enemies all over the world.

Wow. I know Ben has always been unwilling to call out terrible countries, but to genuinely equate anti-Israeli sentiment with anti-semitism is incredibly anti-Semitic.

What about Iranian treatment in the US, or anti islamic sentiment? I am not a religious person but I appreciate that Islam is getting a lot of hate due to peoples hatred of Iran, or Palestine, amongst other things. Is this not the same equation? It is quite embarrassing from someone as privileged as Ben to equate anti Israel to be antisemitic, this is how the Israeli government justify their actions in the genocide.

While I have no knowledge of the specifics of this particular situation, I have handled Israeli aircraft in the past at other airports. Due to security requirements, only enhanced background checked ramp team had to be used for those flights, often leading to inexperienced employees working in roles they were not normally used to filling. There is definitely an enhanced risk of accidents occuring in such situations.

Why feel the need to mention antisemitism? I don’t see what that has to do with anything here?

Also unrelated, but... remember when Xi/CPP/PROC said anyone questioning the origins of the pandemic was 'xenophobic'?

And, thanks to UK261, if AA were to try to lie like that (by blaming weather, when there is none) to avoid compensating affected passengers for excessive delays, that would not be tolerated. We should have an equivalent rule in the US... someday.

Sure, because deranged right never has something against Jews (oh wait, maybe there was something like the holocaust).

Julia is correct; the Nazis were 'socialists' in name only, a calculated rebranding used to co-opt populist sentiment in the 1930s, a basic historical fact.

GRkennedy, you’re engaging in transparent historical revisionism. What’s next, will you try to convince us that the Confederacy was a bastion of 'civil rights'? Goebbels himself would be proud of your commitment to such blatant double-speak.

The NATIONAL SOCIALISTS WORKERS PARTY where TOTALLY left.. The leftists think they can bend the reality and plain facts just by editing a wikipedia entry. It's in plain sight, the left hates the Jews with their guts then and now. Nothing has changed.

BKK, you SHOUT whatever lies you want, it won’t make them true. By the way, you didn’t even get the full-name correct. Oof.

“The Nazi Party, officially the National Socialist German Workers' Party (German: Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei or NSDAP), was a far-right political party in Germany active between 1920 and 1945 that created and supported the ideology of Nazism.”

    good take, Ben.

    do the investigation.

and consider the possibility that they need a better (and perhaps more expensive) ground handler.

The issue that concerns me is the vetting. Having worked at LAX, I know that Israeli carriers do not allow anyone near their aircraft without proper vetting. They know everything about everyone who comes into contact with the aircraft. Did a security failure occur or was it mechanical with tug or operator error?
