I’ve written extensively about the Bilt Mastercard® (review), which is an innovative and rewarding credit card. Bilt has just announced a new partnership with Walgreens, which some will no doubt find to be useful.

Earn bonus Bilt points with Walgreens (and more)

Bilt and Walgreens have today announced a new partnership, which consists of a few things (you can find the full terms here). First of all, effective immediately, Bilt Rewards members can earn bonus points for Walgreens purchases:

  • Earn 2x Bilt points per dollar spent on Walgreens-branded items
  • Earn 1x Bilt points per dollar spent on all other eligible purchases
  • Earn 100 bonus Bilt points on prescription refills, subject to certain exclusions

Note that this doesn’t require paying with the Bilt Mastercard®, but rather you can link any credit card to your Bilt account and earn these bonus rewards. That means these rewards are in addition to whatever credit card rewards you’re already earning on Walgreens purchases.

For example, the Chase Freedom Unlimited® (review) offers 3x points on drugstore purchases, so you could still use that card for Walgreens purchases, and then earn bonus points by linking it to your Bilt account.

On top of that, this partnership also offers automatic FSA/HSA savings. Members can shop at Walgreens using any linked credit card in their Bilt account, and then Bilt’s system will identify FSA or HSA eligible items, and offer a one-click solution to apply benefits.

Coming soon, this partnership will also include complimentary photo prints, though we don’t have any details beyond that as of now.

You might as well take advantage of this

I wouldn’t consider this partnership to be a game changer, though if you shop at Walgreens with any frequency (and especially if you get your prescriptions refilled there), you might as well take advantage of this.

Personally I value Bilt Rewards points at 1.7 cents each, given all the great ways there are to redeem them. I’d consider this partnership to offer an incremental 1.7-3.4% return on spending there, or a $1.70 return on prescription refills.

I’m happy to see Bilt launching more partnerships, and providing additional ways for members to earn points. There are quite a few ways to earn Bilt Rewards points even without having the company’s co-branded credit card.

Bottom line

Bilt Rewards and Walgreens have a new partnership, offering 1-2x Bilt points per dollar spent at Walgreens, plus 100 bonus points per prescription refill. This just requires linking a credit card in your Bilt account, though there’s no need to actually pay with Bilt’s credit card. If you’re a Walgreens shopper, you might as well pick up some bonus points.

What do you make of this new Bilt and Walgreens partnership?

Hmm the terms mention tobacco is excluded, but zero mention of other nicotine products such as Zyn. Bet that loophole is closed real quick. Then again, why should they (or we) care? 1 extra point is nothing

Probably for legal reasons where certain jurisdictions prohibit rewarding tobacco sales.

There are a lot of exceptions you don't mention in your summary. Prescription drugs don't get the bonus.
