It looks like Air France will be discontinuing its route between Paris (CDG) and Denver (DEN), roughly five years after launching flights in the market. The timing here isn’t a coincidence, as it coincides with United Airlines launching this route…
Air France ending Denver route after five years
In the summer of 2021, Air France launched flights between Paris and Denver. Initially the route operated seasonally, before operating year-round in 2024, only to then be operated seasonally again as of 2025.
Unfortunately now it looks like the route won’t operate in either season. Up until now, the plan has been for the service to operate through October 10, 2026 (marking the end of the summer 2026 season), and to then resume as of April 26, 2027 (marking the start of the summer 2027 season).
However, as flagged by JonNYC, Air France is now zeroing out inventory for the route as of next spring, meaning that the flight in a few weeks appears to be the last scheduled Air France flight to Denver. The flight has typically been operated 3x weekly, and Air France has used a variety of aircraft for the route, including the Airbus A350, Boeing 777, and Boeing 787.
This comes as United is launching Denver to Paris flights
One would certainly assume that Denver wasn’t one of Air France’s more profitable destinations in the United States, given the extent to which frequencies and seasonality in the market differed over the years that the service was offered.
However, I imagine the real reason this route is being cut is that as of late May 2027, United Airlines plans to launch daily flights between Denver and Paris. Competitively, that makes it really hard for Air France to compete with its 3x weekly frequencies:
- United of course has a huge advantage in Denver, given its massive hub and loyal local customer base, so it’s not easy for Air France to compete with substantially fewer frequencies
- While Air France probably has better name recognition in Europe and a bigger local customer base in Paris, this route was intended primarily for a US point of sale, particularly to transport Americans to Europe for the summer
- For service beyond Paris, both Lufthansa and United also offer one-stop service to a vast majority of the same destinations that Air France could serve
- Air France’s Denver to Paris flight have operated as part of the SkyTeam transatlantic joint venture with Delta, KLM, and Virgin Atlantic, but it’s not like they have a particularly big customer base in Denver
Bottom line
As of October 2026, Air France will cut its route between Paris and Denver. The service was supposed to resume in the spring of 2027, but that inventory is now being removed. It’s not surprising that this route no longer makes sense when United is also adding service between the same cities, given the overwhelming US point of sale, plus United’s dominance in Denver.
Air France has been quite successful with adding new North America markets in recent years, but it’s also not surprising that not every route works in the long run, especially given the competition.

Ben constantly attacks Delta and doesn’t understand how the airline business works. The real story here folks is Air France is cancelling this route because it will use the airframe on a few daily ATL-SAV flights. This frees up a few 737’s for Delta’s impending dominance at LAX next summer. ;)
Sad, because this was one of the easier routes to find cheap award availability for AF business class.
