Amazingly this fare has been around for a couple of days, and is still available. Iberia has sub-1,000EUR business class fares for travel from various points in Spain to various points in Mexico.

This fare is pretty readily available, though you’ll find most availability for mid-week travel. Note that these fares don’t show up on Google Flights or ITA Matrix, so you’ll have to search and book directly on Iberia’s website using trial-and-error (though you shouldn’t have to look too hard to find availability).

This fare is only valid for roundtrip travel, and it’s only valid when originating in Spain, and not the other way around. So this could be useful if you’re someone in Europe looking to travel to Mexico, or it could also be useful if you’re in North America and can use the outbound and return portion for separate trips.

Iberia primarily uses A340-600s for their routes between Madrid and Mexico City, and these planes feature fully flat staggered seats with direct aisle access in business class. Here’s my review of Iberia’s A340-600 business class between New York and Madrid.

This is also potentially a great way to earn oneworld miles for a transatlantic ticket. For example, if crediting this to American AAdvantage you’d earn 200% elite qualifying miles, 125% redeemable miles, and elite qualifying dollars equal to 25% of the distance flown.

A roundtrip Madrid to Mexico City ticket covers a distance of ~11,300 miles, so you’d earn ~22,600 elite qualifying miles, ~14,100 redeemable miles, and ~2,800 elite qualifying dollars.

If you have elite status you’d earn even more redeemable miles. For example, Executive Platinum members get a 120% mileage bonus, so you’d be looking at ~27,700 redeemable miles.

Hopefully some of you can take advantage of these great fares! I imagine they won’t last much longer, so I’d recommend booking ASAP.

If you take advantage of one of these fares, make sure you use a card offering bonus points for airfare purchases. You can earn up to 5x points, which I value at up to 1.7 cents each, for an additional return of 8.5%.
