Save On Etihad Flights With Amex Offers (Targeted)

The Amex Offers program has just rolled out a great new targeted offer for the purchase of Etihad Airways flights, which could be worth considering for anyone planning travel (that’s not to say you should or shouldn’t plan travel on Etihad, for a variety of reasons — I’m just sharing a deal!).

To my knowledge, this is the first time that we’ve seen an Amex Offers deal for Etihad purchases, so it’s nice to see another airline join the Amex Offers “circuit.”

Spend $1,000+ with Etihad, get $200 back

With a new targeted Amex Offers deal, you can earn a $200 statement credit when you spend $1,000+ or more with Etihad Airways by December 31, 2026.

It’s possible that there’s also a version of the offer for 20,000 bonus points rather than a $200 statement credit, and if so, I’d consider that to be more valuable. That’s because based on my latest miles & points valuations, Amex points are worth 1.7 cents each, so I’d value the 20,000 points at $340.

Earn up to a $200 statement credit with an Etihad booking

There are some terms to be aware of:

  • The flight needs to be booked directly through the Etihad website or app
  • The flight needs to originate in the United States and be charged in USD
  • While you need to book travel by December 31, 2026, it’s okay if you travel on subsequent dates
  • The offer excludes ticket purchases made by phone or in-person at airport ticket offices, and purchases made onboard flights

Let me emphasize that while the terms suggest that you need to book an Etihad flight through the US website that originates in the US, I’ve had similar Amex Offers triggered in the past for flights that didn’t originate in the US, so it’s anyone’s guess how that’s actually enforced here.

Ideally you’ll see this offer on the Amex Platinum

This Amex Offers deal is targeted, though it’s possible you’ll see it on multiple of your cards. If so, I’d highly recommend registering your Amex Platinum Card for this offer. That’s because the Amex Platinum offers 5x points on airfare purchased directly with airlines.

Based on my valuation of 1.7 cents per Membership Rewards point, the 5x points offers an incremental 8.5% return on spending. On top of that, the Amex Platinum offers valuable travel protection, should you experience irregular operations.

In other words, if you took advantage of this offer with the Amex Platinum for a $1,000 ticket, you’d receive a $200 statement credit plus 5,000 points. By my valuation, that’s a return of $285 on $1,000 of spending, which comes out to a 28.5% return.

Bottom line

There’s a new targeted Amex Offers deal for a $200 statement credit when you spend $1,000+ on an Etihad ticket. If you’re planning travel on Etihad, this has the potential to be a solid deal. Ideally you’ll see this offer on the Amex Platinum, so that you can really maximize your points.

Were you targeted for this Amex Offers deal, and if so, do you plan on taking advantage of it?

Etihad has very few 5th freedom routes. So, if you were interested in this, but didn’t want to risk connecting through the Middle East (because… *gestures broadly*), it’s not as easy as, say, taking JFK-MXP on EK. (Oh, and, also, EY apparently hates OMAAT, so… maybe don’t fly these guys if you don’t really have to…)
