The Citi ThankYou program has just launched a couple of new transfer bonuses. While I’d consider the 30% bonus to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club to potentially be a great value, I’m less excited about this offer…
In this post:
Citi offering 20% Wyndham transfer bonus
Between October 20 and November 16, 2024, the Citi ThankYou program in the United States is offering a 20% bonus on points transfers to Wyndham Rewards.
Ordinarily points transfer at a 1:1 ratio (in 1,000 point increments), while through this promotion you’d get 1,200 Wyndham Rewards points for every 1,000 Citi ThankYou points transferred.
This promotion is being offered on Citi’s end (in the United States), and is hard coded into the transfer ratio, meaning you should see the bonus at the time that you make the transfer. You can take advantage of this offer an unlimited number of times. Transfers from Citi to Wyndham Rewards are generally instant.
Wyndham Rewards was only added as a Citi ThankYou transfer partner in late 2021, and this is the second transfer bonus that we’ve seen to the program.
There are several great cards earning Citi ThankYou points, including the Citi Strata Premier℠ Card (review), and it’s easy to combine points between the cards.
Should you transfer Citi points to Wyndham Rewards?
It’s rare that I give absolute advice, so this is as close as I’ll get to it — please don’t transfer your Citi ThankYou points to Wyndham Rewards, even with a 20% bonus.
Personally I value Wyndham Rewards points at 0.7 cents each, so even with a 20% bonus, you’re getting under a cent of value per ThankYou point, by my valuation. Furthermore, Wyndham Rewards often has promotions on buying points, which is an opportunity to acquire these points for under a cent each.
For context, Wyndham Rewards properties cost either 7,500, 15,000, or 30,000 points per night, and while there are some premium properties, they’re the exception rather than the norm. Therefore I just don’t see much value in taking advantage of this transfer opportunity, given the better uses of ThankYou points.
Just to add to the above point, Choice Privileges and Wyndham Rewards are both Citi ThankYou transfer partners, and I value the points currencies roughly equally. The difference is that transfers to Choice at a 1:2 ratio, and transfers to Wyndham are at a 1:1 ratio. I’d say Wyndham transfers could be worth it in some cases if the transfer ratio were 1:2 (or if there were a 100% transfer bonus), but otherwise, I’d give this a pass.
Bottom line
Between October 20 and November 16, 2024, the Citi ThankYou program is offering a 20% bonus on points transfers to Wyndham Rewards. For a vast majority of people, this isn’t even worth considering. I value Wyndham Rewards points at 0.7 cents each, so even with a 20% bonus, you’re getting very poor value.
Does anyone plan on taking advantage of this Citi transfer bonus to Wyndham Rewards?
This guidance is 100% wrong and should be withdrawn. Four seasons has fried your brain.
If you use Vacasa you will get a minimum of 1.6 CPP and with this bonus I suppose you could get almost 2 CPP. So saying don't use this without any caveat is kind of silly.
You can do a random search in any city and Wyndham is def not same value level as Choice.
You're valuing Wyndham pts too low. I routinely get 2 CPP and would value it at 1 CPP for any mildly savvy user.
