Citi AAdvantage Card 5,000 Bonus Loyalty Points Offer

In the interest of full disclosure, OMAAT earns a referral bonus for anyone that’s approved through some of the below links. Citi is an advertising partner of OMAAT. The information and associated card details on this page for the American Airlines AAdvantage® MileUp® has been collected independently by OMAAT and has not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer. These are the best publicly available offers (terms apply) that we have found for each product or service. Opinions expressed here are the author's alone, not those of the bank, credit card issuer, airline, hotel chain, or product manufacturer/service provider, and have not been reviewed, approved or otherwise endorsed by any of these entities. Please check out our advertiser policy for further details about our partners, and thanks for your support! The offer for the Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite Mastercard® has expired. Learn more about the current offers here.

I assume this promotion is targeted, but it’s still worth calling out, since I imagine many people may be eligible but not otherwise see this offer (if you’re eligible, you’ll find it in the promotions tab in your AAdvantage account)…

Earn bonus Loyalty Points with Citi AAdvantage Card spending

Nowadays Loyalty Points are the metric by which you earn elite status in the American AAdvantage program. Since you can earn Loyalty Points for credit card spending, it’s possible to earn elite status exclusively through credit card spending, if you’d like to.

A new promotion seems to have been pushed to some AAdvantage accounts of those who have a Citi AAdvantage credit card, like the Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard® (review), Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite Mastercard® (review), American Airlines AAdvantage® MileUp® (review), or Citi® / AAdvantage Business™ World Elite Mastercard® (review).

Specifically, there’s a promotion to earn 5,000 bonus Loyalty Points for using your Citi AAdvantage card:

  • Earn 500 bonus Loyalty Points when you use your card to make at least one eligible purchase in one credit card billing statement
  • Earn 1,000 bonus Loyalty Points when you use your card to make at least one eligible purchase in a second credit card billing statement
  • Earn 1,500 bonus Loyalty Points when you use your card to make at least one eligible purchase in a third credit card billing statement
  • If you do that for all three billing statements, you’ll earn 2,000 additional Loyalty Points
Citi AAdvantage Loyalty Points bonus offer

As you can tell, this is an easy(ish) way to earn 5,000 bonus Loyalty Points for making three purchases of any amount. You just need to register by June 15, 2023, and the purchases need to post to your billing statement by August 31, 2023. The key is that the three purchases are across three different billing periods.

Citi AAdvantage Loyalty Points bonus offer

I assume this is a targeted promotion

I see this offer on my account, and I have some friends who also see the offer on their accounts, though I’m not sure just how widespread this promotion is. I suspect it’s probably targeted at people who have Citi AAdvantage credit cards, but don’t frequently use the cards for spending.

I plan to take advantage of this offer, and I’ll have to mark my calendar to make sure I don’t screw this up. I don’t ordinarily use an American Airlines credit card for my everyday spending, so I have to remember to take the card out once per billing cycle for a purchase. Three small purchases netting 5,000 Loyalty Points is a pretty good offer, in my mind.

Bottom line

There’s a new targeted offer whereby you can earn 5,000 bonus Loyalty Points when you use your Citi AAdvantage card to make at least one purchase per billing cycle for three consecutive billing cycles. This has the potential to be a good deal for helping you earn elite status, so it’s definitely worth being aware of.

Were you targeted for this promotion, and if so, do you plan on taking advantage of it?

Has anyone gotten their 5000 LPs? For a while this promo showed in my Promotions page on aa.com, but it has now disappeared and the points haven’t posted (yet).

I chatted with Citi and they acted like they didn't know a thing about the promotion. They told me that if American sent me the email, it was American's responsibility to fulfill. CFPB complaint headed their way.

I signed up for this, have screen shots and met the requirements but no LP so far. I do believe this is an AA issue and not a Citi issue. The offer was on the AA site.

It doesn't show on my site either. I spoke with an agent, he said I was automatically added to the promotion....only I don't know that, so its unfortunate that Citi will not have to pay, if the rules are unknown to me so I loose. One of those don't tell subjects.

What are the eligible purchases? Can you just buy a cup of joe each statement and satisfy the requirements?

  4. Bort Guest

Wasn't listed as one of my promotions. I use the card to buy plane tickets and have been doing a lot of travel lately, so I guess they didn't think I needed an incentive. Bummer.

Got it on my Platinum with the LP verbiage. However, I got a similar offer last year but never got credit, so we'll see if it actually works this time.

I have both the Platinum & Executive Cards and spend pretty heavily on them both. No offer as of yet. Kinda stinks, because CITI & AA are both stingy with LP's.

No and No. i use my Citi Aadvantage cards and don’t use Barclays currently. I downgraded to Barclays grey $0 AF back in January to save $99 on Aviator red then this year has ended up being good business wide so I’m at a stalemate with Barclays. No way I’m earning 1/2 an LP per $1 on everyday spending.

  8. LMT Guest

My offer is for the Barclays Aviator for 5,000 Loyalty Points.

  9. aarjee Guest

I got this, but for the Barclays card I never use, and for miles instead of Loyalty Points

Citi and Barclays card holder. No offers.

Mine is for regular RDM instead of LP - which I prefer, actually. 5K RDM for the same plan of three charges over three billing periods.

My offer was for 5000 bonus miles with the aviator card. The terms explicitedly said only bonus miles and no LP. I have two citi AA related cards but no offers there... My offer was on the aa website under promotions.

Same question, where would this be located if it was targeted? Email? Citibank login? etc

    1. BenjaminGuttery Diamond

Read the article. It clearly says and even shows the answer.

  14. pm Guest

Can’t seem to find it. Any idea where it’s located?

    1. BenjaminGuttery Diamond

It's on your AA promotions page. AA.Com. Clearly says and show it in the article. So that probably means your not eligible.

  15. denny Guest

Well that is certainly sad for me. Mine specifically calls out "bonus miles" and not loyalty points.

With my $99 AF posting, it will not be worth it to keep for bonus miles. Loyalty points would've been a different story.

BAM, registered! This will be a key piece of my quest to requalify for Platinum!
