This is exciting. In late 2019, United launched a seasonal nonstop service between Newark and Cape Town. It seems that the route has been a success, as the airline is now adding year-round flights in the market.

Ana 104k round-trip USA to Africa and can even tag on a free extra one way in USA before or after
Friends of mine in NYC paid $3,000 roundtrip in coach each to fly this flight over the Christmas holiday 2019-2020. Granted, highest of high season, but they said the nonstop was worth it. And it was full both ways. Anecdotal, yes, but there is a market.
Love South Africa. This will be such a steal on ANA with no fuel surcharges for United.
Thanks so much for the heads up Lucky. Was on a 3 leg trip for CPT to DCA for 19 SEP. Just booked this flight instead at 70k miles and saves about 10 hours of travel time. Not a single seat occupied in J cabin yet so wide open choice.
United are flying to Cape Town now but I do not seem to be able to book in May. Will they be stopping the flights for a few months before resuming in June?
Why Cape Town? ... What about the more economically viable and aesthetically beautiful Durban, once referred to as the Playground of Africa ... ?
