Sriwijaya Air 737 Goes Missing In Indonesia

What I want to know is why there have been so many aircraft "disappearances" specifically in Indonesia. Poor pilot training, weather, or what?

I was in Pontianak a few years ago. I have two fond memories - first, the city is located directly on the equator and when you visit the equator monument, they even give you a certificate signed by the mayor, and second, the airport has an A&W Restaurant (I had not seen one of those in ages). My heart goes out to those who perished.

Poor pilot training will be the culprit. I have flown the 737-300,500,700,800,900,900er 757-200,300 767-200,400, now 787-8-9-10.

The 737-500 is without a doubt the most gentle aircraft to fly. It is a Cessna 172 if you will. The automation is a mix of old school and newish school. It is one of the basic aircraft to operate.

My question is why airlines give pilots the OK to depart into torrential rain.

Maybe they’re the people in the pic posted in the media. Smiling Mum with 2 sweet kids, posted from the plane before takeoff. In a way I wish I hadn’t opened the page, because it’s very sad and can’t be ‘unseen’. On the other hand it puts faces to the tragedy.
