I could see it being used to transport a vintage bottle of Petrus, La Tâche, Salon, etc.
The point is that you need to be transporting a bottle worth several thousand dollars and can’t afford to have it damaged/stolen, that’s the only scenario that would make sense.
I don't think the purpose is to actually use this for travel. It's more like using it to present a special champagne at a friend's or relative's house? But then again, Rimowa isn't about practicality anymore anyways since the LVMH acquisition. After all, these are the people that came up with the transparent carry-on luggage...
This would have been perfect for a group of US passengers I overheard that had bought a $7k bottle of Patrón En Lalique tequila in Dubai a few years back.
In Australia, this would be for either Chinese or Lebanese. The only ones that like to show off over priced luxury brands items

I got a 12 bottle wine suitcase that I have used on a lot of trips at total wine for under 200$ on clearance because a new model was coming out, I have been able to use it for trips to France, and the EU and parts of America for beer and other spirits with no issues. That being said it's a nice case is it 1700$ nice? maybe not but its probably a few hundred dollars nice.
I honestly have been disappointed by Rimowa luggages and their customer service. Their aluminum suitcases are nothing more than glorified cola cans and get smashed and get misaligned quite easily. A trip to the local rimowa set me back $45 for the repair but having paid $$$ I find these trips for repair repulsive.
I collect champagne. Most, but not all bottles valued over 1k come in a wooden case. I would definitely use this, not as luggage, nor as carry on, but when transporting a valuable bottle in the car.
It doesn't even look like it doesn't do a good job of wrapping around the bottle. Maybe you can pay extra for custom foam.
This is very on-brand for post-acquisition Rimowa: a bland, wildly overpriced item of dubious quality that's perfectly suited to status-obsessed nouveau riche in Asia.
When did you buy it? There's been a noticeable drop-off in quality (along with a large increase in prices) since LVMH bought the company.
Purchased about 3 years ago. I’m now afraid to check it in as every single time, they decimate it and the luggage becomes misaligned to the point of unable to close correctly.

What does real life have to do with most of LVMH business lines? They’re selling a fantasy. How different is it from selling credit card referrals?
Ben this is absurd. Why not just buy a case of dom Perignon and store it properly instead ? You can enjoy it over the years and or it will increase in value anyways.
I've wanted a Rimowa luggage forever and finally realized that it was way too much money for the brand recognition. Purchased a TravelPro and couldn't be happier.
disagree with the "dubious" quality. This is Rimowa, German Enngineered premium aluminum cases. Definitely not a random low quality company
We have wine luggage that we use pretty often. Though, admittedly, it holds 12 bottles. And it doesn't cost anything near $1720.
I carried a bottle of Petrus 89 from Europe to the US protected by our clothes and everybody I know does it like that.
Many wine merchants used the import limit to bring top notch bottles to Hong Kong and transported them in their luggage.
This stuff is the same as an Hermes Ipad case for people reluctant to pay 100 bucks subscription for quality content. A statement of poor taste. Ever since Rimowa got acquired by LVMH they became yet another brand that some marketing "genius" tries to locate between another zillion of brands, parting fools of (too much of) their money in the process. You know where it took GM, you know where it's taking VW, wait another 20 years for LVMH.
The bottle was excellent by the way, Robuchon at the Mansion were kind enough to even waive the corkage fee.
Does it come with any guarantee or insurance. No point pay top $$$ and the wine bottle cracks. Can they assure the quality. If it comes with insurance yeah then it’s worth it.

The plastic luggage they sell last longer than the metal ones. The metal ones look like crap after 4-5 trips. My father had one that he used on like 200 flights..man that thing looked horrible.
I bought one, not for champagne. But to store medicine and jewelry almost like an old fashioned train case. It goes with the rest of my things. I must say, I wish the lining would pop out. It leaves very little space for the small essentials while traveling.
