Is An Uber One Membership Worth It?

What is it with tipping in the US? Honestly, as a German, I do not quite understand that you are „supposed“ to tip literally everyone you encounter. Where does that come from?

One important point for international travellers is that the benefits are not available outside your home country (at least this is the case for UK and ZAR). So if you sign up in the UK you won't get discounts when you travel in the US.

Glad you added that. I was going to sign up but most of my Uber usage is overseas so kind of negates the benefit for me. Very helpful, Kevin...thanks.

Primarily comes out of the system in the U.S. that many employees (service industry) are paid wages that assume they will be tipped and will become their primary source of income. A contrast to Europe (and really everywhere in the world) where employees are paid standard living wages and tips are just a small bonus when they come OR have service charges rolled into the costs. it used to be ok as dining in the U.S. was overall much cheaper than in Europe. But as of the past few years quality restaurants here have raised prices so much that when adding 20% it's getting crazy eating out here. In Europe lately I find the costs (especially given the current exchange) wayyyy more affordable.

Bottom line to your question...realize that a server here is making just a few dollars an hour and your tip is their primary income.

Worst customer service with canned responses from the agents

I only get activate it in months when I have Uber eats promo codes to burn, and there are other deals available to stack on Uber eats orders, like there is now (Citi offers and simply miles).

I had UberPass ( before they changed the name) and I noticed that as long as I had it, I did not get any promo codes at all. Bottom line: for my needs, I save more from the regular promo codes that I get now than I did with Uber One.

It's because employers underpay their employees. Especially for "gig" jobs where folks are not even employees but independent contractors. They are paid for the delivery but not the use of their car or for supplies (the bags they use for keeping your food warm). If you tip 20% it's a decent living for delivery people. If you don't they are in some cases getting less than minimum wage. That's why I always tip delivery and TNC drivers. Without tips their wages suck.

Uber One is absolutely worth having because it's totally free. Uber constantly has offers for free Uber One. Citi has merchant offers from time to time. Capital One now pays for 6-24 months of Uber One. In conjunction with Amex credits and discounted Uber gift cards, Uber One is good to have. Would I consider paying for it? No, thank you.

Seems mostly useful for Uber Eats.

Using Family Profile as payment method (with the Uber One member as organizer), do the benefits apply to the family member’s Uber Eats orders and Uber rides as well?

How do I QUIT UberOne? I have been looking for an email or phone # to contact & cancel my UberOne membership.

I subscribe to Uber one 4 days ago and since then I've tried to get a ride three times and have not been successful. I think having Uber one narrows the pool of drivers considerably. Also, I've tried to use Uber eats since then and it was about 10 minutes before the order was expected to arrive. When they send me a message in the app that says the Uber support staff has canceled my order. Some support! I use Uber frequently and I've never had any trouble except after I subscribe to Uber One.

The biggest scam is that almost all restaurants I have ordered from will not deliver for free despite having Uber One.

IMHO it is a developed country's legal version of what is sometimes considered unofficially as "bribes" in many developing countries to get service from poor or underpaid employees.
In Japan and South Korea, the service staff may get offended if you offer them a tip. Although, ironically, I have noticed a 15% service fee added to my hotel bill.
So, you pick how you want to pay; Upfront as part of the official bill; or unofficially as a tip, where you have some control as to how much you pay.

Like most found that it’s a rip off…they do charge a deceivery fee thru mark ups and service fees….don’t fall for this scam will purposely avoid Uber for trying to scam people

I have never joined UBER one, but all of a sudden they are deducting $9.99 a month. I don’t even use UBER except on rare occasions

I'm still not sure if the Uber one membership is worth it. I still pay more than before I had it on my rides. I came here to see if someone had something encouraging to say but found nothing

How do you renew your membership for UBER? Does the membership end when your credit card expires? I am not a member yet but I have some questions before deciding whether to join. Thank you

Make sure you are going to use Uber to travel before signing up. If you find you've had enough if them, go tonyour account and delete your payment method. Simples. I found That I didn't use tge service enough to warrant the subscription charge, so cancelled everything. There are other choices.

Its a scam, never told by Uber that a membership is needed. Automactically charged me 9.99 fee without my consent and never even use uber

I've had the uber one membership for almost a month and have had the worst drivers. So bad that I had to complain. The first one, it was his first day ever working for uber and I was his second rider uber was asked me about the fees I paid for rides and when I used uber etc. for most the trip, when I stopped talking, he called his gf but ( I didn't complain) The second lady went the longest way without trying to correct her mistakes and using common sense to see we were going in a big square rather than cut across, still (didn't complain I mean gps sometimes sucks) but when the 3rd driver refused to put the ac on and had a loud phone conversation on speaker in a foriegn language loud and told me we needed to stop for gas and went wayyy out of the way passing at least 3 stores, waiting for a pump to become available at that store, making my ride super uncomfortable and 20 min longer-thats where I drew the line! Thought Uber was supposed to get notified if the driver went off route! Pending their response from my complaint
