Qatar Airways has today showed off the snazzy new plane that its subsidiary will be taking delivery of next year. If only there were an easy way to redeem miles for a flight on this.

Making the earth an uninhabitable wasteland through climate destruction so that autocratic thieves can get to their destination 30 minutes earlier: seems like a worthwhile trade-off. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Akbar Al Baker has gone mad.

Interesting to see how they plan to operate. The cost of repositioning flights will make them very uncompetitive.

Qatar has had a private fleet for many years. I had a chance of a private tour of Qatar's 650 a few years back at Farnborough. Absolutely gorgeous inside with beds, kitchen etc. Just wish I could have taken a long haul flight in one!

Oh Eric my heart breaks for you. Waking up everyday with such misery has to be a burden

I've worked on 24 different aircraft. The dispatch rate is what makes Gulfstream different. Global service, parts, technician support make it number 1 with on time departures and arrival. Time is money ....

The crew rest compartment is for a 3rd crew member when required by regulation or operator practice for flights over a certain duration.

Drats! This model renders my Gulfstream spotting trick (count the windows and then subtract 2) useless!

With 10 windows, my math would make this a G8, which it is not. Sad day.

The filthy-rich Qatari market demographic isn't really known for shopping around to get competitive pricing.

I don't understand your cynicism. Time is money for many - even if you don't consider it so. My family and I operate a fleet of G600, G650 and G700s as charters. Last week, our fleet were used teams of Unicef aid workers deliver supplies to Afghanistan. On the return flight, we were able to carry civilians and evacuees with us.

Two G700s are on order with deliveries expected by 2024. It's a business - we do it because we get paid. It's not altruism. However, the point is that a lot of aid work around the world is directed through private charters to destinations not served by commercial nor govt. endorsed aircraft. The UN is just one consistent customer.

I used to manage the fleet for a small charter company back in the day. Working on Gulfstreams was a joy - really top notch aircraft. The loss times for the Gulstreams were significantly lower to their competitors.
