On the surface, the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card (learn more) and Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card (learn more) are in different leagues. One is sort of the benchmark mid-range travel card, and it was refreshed in June 2026. The other is a premium card that’s well known for being a great value, given…

I was about to get Venture X, but the removal of not allowing even one lounge guest killed the deal for me.

Capital One is notorious for having nebulous and illogical approval rules, even (maybe especially) for people with high credit scores and high income. Chase's 5/24 rule is annoying, but Chase is at least consistent.

Love venture x. Everything 2 for 1 and with the 300 travel credit and the 10,000 anniversary bonus....no math is needed to justify.

Seriously. C1 hates me. I've been under 5/24, but it seems they want 0/24, and to carry a balance.

Indeed. The referral bonuses must be really good on the CSP for these kinds of false comparisons to popup up.

They’re two completely different types of cards…is OMAAT becoming another one those “credit card youtube” clowns? Waaaay too many already.

Let me guess…next post is how palladium is best card ever made. LOL. LOL.

Most credit card issuers have automated checks for red flags based on the stuff in the credit reports. Sometimes they can't distinguish a UHNWI from a newly employed college grad.

Capital one and Wells Fargo have the most insane underwriting policies. Honorable mention to shitibank, of course.

@Ben — great comparison and good conclusion that having both is worthwhile because they complement each other. I look forward to another post analyzing which version of the Sapphire card best complements the Venture X.

Excellent excuse to cover three cards with links. No one should hold all of these. Churn and close. Keep one.

A couple more important differences to consider:

Capital One charges $125 to add an authorized user with Capital One lounge privileges. Likewise with their Priority Plus benefit. I would have to pay $45 to bring my wife into a Capital One lounge even though she is an authorized user with her own card. My wife eats small meals and does not drink alcohol, so this represents a poor value for us. On the other hand, we also have the wonderful Chase Sapphire Reserve card which allows both of us in their lounges without a fee or paying for a second authorized user.

Capital One requires a minimum $6,000 cash withdrawal limit. I consider this to be an unnecessary risk. Chase allowed us to disable the cash advance feature entirely. Who in their right mind would use a credit card to withdraw $6,000 in cash with all the fees and high interest rate? How would one prove that such a cash withdrawal was fraudulent? This is a very bad "feature". I use a Fidelity ATM card to withdraw cash around the world with no fees or interest charges.

The strongest features of the Capital One card can be matched elsewhere. There are zero-fee credit cards that earn 2% cash back on all purchases and Chase is opening a new Sapphire lounge at DFW. This might be the end of the Capital One Venture X card for us.

I carry both! My home airport is DCA so I have the Landing location there and I stop in for at least a coffee every time (and I do some Dulles for the full Lounge) plus I'm content just using the CapOne miles for travel erasure, and of course easily getting the full travel credit value for independent hotels each year. And the Sapphire Preferred for those bonus categories that all goes to either Hyatt or United. The DoorDash and now Apple+ are just gravy.

I think one thing worth mentioning is the transfer partners for each card. Cathay Pacific is the one that I transfer my AMEX and Venture points to the most which is not a transfer partner for Chase Preferred so something to consider when deciding between the two.

Isn’t the CSP grocery benefit for online grocery only? It’s a little annoying to use
