Rosewood Hotels & Resorts is one of the fastest growing luxury hotel groups in the world, and I’d say it’s the biggest competitor to Four Seasons. The brand has just announced an expansion to New Zealand, whereby the company is taking over management for three iconic lodges.

The Pandemic and NZ's extremely strict policies is the cause of this. These are iconic properties and RL does an incredible job. Pretty safe to assume that they just couldn't keep it going after the shut down and that lead to this. Overall I think it's a positive - Rosewood is a terrific brand and they'll be able to keep the RL team in place (hopefully).
Julian Robertson passed away a year ago. The family are probably less vested in these properties now.
Having stayed at these lodges I would say that like all seasonal properties they suffer from a mix of permanent staff (excellent) and seasonal labour (mixed bag - too many Americans on a working holiday who have no idea how to deliver a luxury experience). I don’t see Rosewood solving for that problem when it struggles with service levels at its flagship properties.
Personally I would be more excited if Taj was taking over the management of these lodges.
The author failed to mention that the golf courses are rated among the best in the world,; each property has a fabulous spa; and that their are houses with for bedrooms for groups in clouding the Owner’s Cottage.
Cape Kidnappers and Kauri Cliffs are world famous golf courses. Makes a ton of sense for Rosewood to buy these properties as it has such a loyal following whose demographic travels across the world for golf but very few people know of the quality that is NZ golf, this makes a ton of sense. Every time im in a rosewood property i see myself and every other guest looking through their book on all their resorts planning their next trip.
