In 2018, luxury hotel group Mandarin Oriental launched a guest recognition program, named Fans Of M.O. Almost across the board I’d typically argue that a hotel loyalty program is worth participating in, though this might be one case where it’s not. I just completed my first Mandarin Oriental hotel stay in years, and I wanted…

Much like the Youyou Four Point and sheraton saga during covid, where the four point did not open for a long time, and redirect all of the guest to sheraton (same owner and 200m apart), while selling for 20% cheaper, the only thing that is different is that you won't be granted lounge and 1000 points if you book four point and got directed to sheraton, for you status benefit.

Staying at the KUL MO next week. Booked through Amex FHR. You get most (maybe all) of the perks of joining their scheme + 5x per $, $100 spa credit & the Amex plat $200 credit. Most MO's are FHR, I believe. Price was the same. Even if I had used up my $200 FHR credit already, the 5x + spa credit makes it a much better value.

I am not sure how MO ranks or promotes its members, but as an Elite Fan I doubt I would have reached that level booking through the service you offer. I spent a few years as a standard Fan and one day received an email that I am now Elite. It gives me incredible perks and is a huge benefit. In fact I would say it rivals or exceeds Four Seasons Elite. More consistent upgrades to some pretty amazing rooms, etc. As well the credit you mention for booking through Ford's service.

It would be interesting to get a response from MO as to whether Elite is awarded to those booking through a service.

„There are no status tiers“. That‘s apparently not correct. They have a tier status: Elite member of Fans of M.O.

Hans, Yes. I am an Elite and it's fantastic. Great recognition and rivals FS Elite. I can't tell you what's the criteria as it doesn't seem published, but I have spent a pretty fair number of nights at MO each year for the past two decades.

It's actually Fans of MO Elite. Comes with breakfast, pressing, welcome gift and few more things plus 2 choices.

@Stuart
By any chance yours expire end of this year? It seems no one got it renewed yet.

@Eskimo, I have actually never know when, if, or how it is renewed. I've had it a couple of years and it just goes on. Same (sorts) with FS Elite. Sometimes FS sends a card etc, sometimes not, but the status is still there. I know I am an MO Elite this year as have had it in Munich and Bangkok the past two months. And it shows on my Fan profile on the website. I've never received a card though or any sort of "renewal" note any of the years. But it's a wonderful program and it's amazing the consistent upgrades I get.

Booking with FHR sounds like the better deal. If you can't combine Fans of MO and Fan Club in one booking, couldn't you combine FHR with Fans of MO to get extra perks?

Thank you
