This is easily one of the most spectacular views I've ever had from a hotel room. Yes, that's the Taj Mahal in the background. And yes, those are dancers on top of the building. I do have one serious issue, though. Remember when you first flew business class and thought you could never go back…

Ben,

While you ignored my last question, do you tip your housekeepers?

I just want to know how much of a cheapskate are you. If you do I give you my respect and admiration.

First time I've ever wished that I was there with you! I'm not sure if I'll ever get to India, and probably won't be able to detach from the standard SPG, Hyatt, and Hilton chains...

Looks fantastic. this is why the luxury hotels forum exists on flyertalk 🙂 there are very few properties in the usual suspects spg, hyatt, hilton, ic etc portfolios that can compete with real luxury hotels.

anyway sounds like a great trip looking forward to hearing about maldives when you get there. i wonder after going there whether you will still recommend people go to bali instead because it's easier (in my view like telling someone from nyc they are better off going to jersey shore than say the caribbean because it's easier to get to 🙂 )

Lucky,

Try all four of the oberoi palaces, udayvilas, rajvilas and the vanyavilas (which I am sure u will try in Ranthambore) and then top it up with the taj falaknuma palace someday 😉

The Oberoi Amarvilas, right! Enjoy the terrific service in India.

You'll be disappointed with the service in Maldives after India (and Bali). Very, very different service culture there. You won't be disappointed with the beauty, though.

Make sure you have breakfast on the balcony and watch the sunrise change the view of the Taj Mahal! It appears you had the same room we had a few years ago!

I know what you mean. I stayed at the Amanpuri earlier this year, and hands down it was the best resort I've ever stayed at.

Ah, the amarvillas. One of the best hotels IMHO, and it's all about LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION. It is odd that apparently they don't ever light up the Taj (I guess they do it once a year for some festival)

I will say, of all the Oberois I have stayed at in India this one does NOT have the best service and or experience and this one IS EXCELLENT. Just wait till you get to some of the other Oberois and you will be blown away. I think this hotel acts as more of a business hotel and therefore the service is more PROFESSIONAL and not EXCEPTIONAL and OVER THE TOP.

When we were kids, bath on floor was a way of life. That morphed to a Holiday Inn as we got older. As an adult, it started with Sheraton and Hilton. From there, the Luxury Collection of SPG and The Ritz were the next step.

My children never experienced the bath on floor days of the Catskills. They started with Sheratons. What will they have to look forward to when they 'grow up' if they're already half way there?
