Aman Resorts are among my favorite in the world. They have properties in a lot of incredible destinations, with a big focus on nature. While I dont follow the brand as blindly as I used to, I still think they offer some fantastic hotels.

Once private equity(in American or Russian or whomever) gets involved it's game over. They'll simply follow the model: Fluff up the financials, squeeze out short term profits, get rich, sell to another bidder dumb enough to buy it. You'd be better off co-investing with the current PE group, take those profits and slumming it at a Park Hyatt or Ritz Carlton. Seems that the reputational Aman is dead in the water at this point.
Totally agree. I have the same feeling. The locations are not special. It seems like pure real estate play to sell condos. Also size of the hotels seems worrying. New York with 83 suites plus multiple bedroom units.

Great hotels in more exotic locations. Personally in a NYC I would rather earn points so stay at a Hyatt. Their property in Bhutan is amazing though.
Opening in cookie cutter locations is bad enough, but Miami? How the mighty has fallen.
If Miami were even capable of generating yet another Eurotrash explosion, this would merit the label.
The (majority of the) legacy properties exist on a different dimensional plane. Let's hope it remains that way for a while longer.

Aman is cashing in on the reputation of the founders (who sold out a few years ago) and all the free publicity people like you are giving them -- all the while significantly reducing the amount of service they're providing (i.e. they're going downscale).
