I think it's basic courtesy to take the trash out when staying at a non-hotel property, no? We have an Airbnb we rent, and definitely ask guests to do it. Otherwise if the cleaning lady doesn't come immediately, it's a mess.

What’s the difference between your AirBNB and a hotel? You’re both profit seeking enterprises who charge market rate for people to stay at your accommodation.

There’s no “courtesy” involved in a business transaction.

Get lost. Take your own trash out weirdo. If you’re charging to stay do your own work.

I'm a host. We have an amazing house that's been in our family for generations, and even though we don't break even, it allows us to keep the house in the family.

Airbnb treats their hosts like the bad guys and tricks guests with deceptive math.

Hosts pay a cleaner for the time they put in (funny how that works). If they need to put more time in... they charge hosts more, then the hosts have to charge the guest more. So it's either ask guests to clean the entire house just as a cleaning crew would and don't charge any cleaning fee (unreasonable), ask them to do a little so the cleaning crew can be more efficient and charge less, or ask them to do nothing, then charge guests more because the cleaning crew has to do more (and thus charges more).

We actually lose money on our cleaning fee, and I'm sure we're not the only ones. We ask (but don't require) that a couple things be done- strip the sheets and start the dishwasher. Things I don't mind doing when we rent Airbnbs.

For people who get mad about cleaning fees, they actually save you money. A single cleaning fee is the only way to do a pro rated cleaning fee. Unfortunately there's no fair way to not charge a cleaning fee, because a single cleaning fee is the same regardless of duration of stay. if we have to zero out a cleaning fee by raising the nightly fee to make up for it, then how do we charge people for a two night stay vs. a week stay? The people who stay longer than 2 nights get screwed because we would need to make sure the nightly fee would make up for an entire cleaning fee for the shortest of stays (two nights).

Also, Airbnb recently said they did away with guest fees, which was stupid. It just meant we had to raise our price to make the same amount of money because we're not just going to eat the extra fees they're charging us.

BTW, our guests get an incredibly unique 5200 sq ft house in Colorado with stunning views for much less than the price of a 600 sq ft suite at a local hotel. Seems like a good deal to me.

Dude wtf the public don’t need to keep your house for generations. Are you mental?

Yes I believe in inheritance but you can’t expect Airbnb to subsidise that.

Bewildered.
