Weekly Review (And Spring Cleaning At OMAAT)
Happy Saturday! Before we get into the weekly review, I wanted to let y'all know about some changes that will be happening to the blog this weekend. We're implementing a bunch of new technology on the back-end of the site, in addition to refreshing the blog with a fresher look and feel that is hopefully…

Please keep it simple (as it already is!). I used to be a big fan of TPG, but I wasn't a fan their recent makeover a few months ago. Thought I'd get used to it after a while, but I didn't seem to.
Please don't change the layout of the site, the fonts, of the colours. This is both minimalistic and aesthetically pleasing.
Your lack of response to the AA scandal is reprehensible after the major hit job ben did on UA. Shame!!!
Agree with Trex and Chandan! This is a great site - please don't tinker too much.
Perhaps, more articles from Tiffany's perspective. Loved the reports on Jordan.
@ Ryan -- We were doing server upgrades yesterday and I wasn't able to post...
Ryan - Indeed, the 8000 articles discussing the United incident just weren't enough, let's have another 8000 about this...
Auto start video ads = only visit on wifi. Not a welcome change. Even on wifi, it slows down my old laptop. Good for ad revenue though.
@ Mark F. -- There shouldn't be auto-start video ads anywhere on the site. If you see one, please let us know the advertiser (if you can) and we'll try to block it. Sorry about that!
Unfortunately not everything functioned properly during our final stress test, so we're holding off on the new site for now.
And for those asking, the new site will keep the core things that make OMAAT feel like OMAAT -- including chronological comments. 😉
"including chronological comments"
This has been debated over the years, but I don't recall Ben giving a comprehensive answer (other than "people don't like too much change", or some such). What is the reason you have not changed to a more user friendly format that, quite frankly, encourages people to comment and reply?
OMAAT has a large number of engagements and surely improving the comments section would increase that, would it not?
@ Todd -- We did a poll at one point, and more people preferred chronological comments.
I would personally prefer threaded comments, as I find them easier to follow when there's a lively debate happening, but I can also see the argument that it's easier to read through the comments in order if you are coming to a post later on, or returning and want to see the latest details.
I guess it's a personal preference, and more people around here seemed to prefer the chronological option, so we'll keep that for now at least.
@Tiffany; The ad says 'ad by:' and then it shows a red triangle (play button). Its on this site as I type. Previously, it was an ad for Nissan. Now its just trying to show a video ad, but maybe the blocker is working. 🙂
Thanks for your help on this. My poor little outdated laptop was giving me the spinning color wheel of death when trying to access the site.
I'm having the same irritating problem as Mark F. Some of those damn ads make scrolling thru posts nearly impossible.
