I've been watching this live for a few hours while working, it's quite fun! The crosswinds are over now though so the landings are less dramatic. Earlier was wild though.
I found it humorous that the commentator, I think his name is Gary, mentions that he is barraged by pilots the next day asking for clips of their landings.
Wonder when people will stop using YouTube.
I guess most people don't care about censorship or morals. They just want to be entertained. (and have corporations sell them more stuff too)

350 flights canceled at Schipol today (AMS). Trains also canceled from 2pm onward. Wind speeds have exceeded 90mph.

I feel like the ads on OMAAT have gotten a bit out of control lately. I count seven ads on this post alone, two of which are videos that start automatically. I've never used an ad blocker on OMAAT because I love Lucky and the blog and want to provide my support but it's becoming hard to read the material without constantly battling all of the ads...

QR is bouncing all over the place and says no thank you followed by BA and EK sticking the landing.
It's no longer live now so you can scroll to the best times. 10:00AM-1:00PM GMT is where you get the best cross winds and the most go arounds. The Qatar one, finally getting it on the third try, is really fun.
I've got aborted at 3:07-ish, aborted at at 3:24-ish and touch down at 3:56-ish.
While the whole live stream was brilliant, the highlight for me was when he was approached by traditional media, e.g., BBC, Sky News and Channel 4 for interviews, and he said something like "my viewers come first."
And with 230k viewers at one points, it's safe to say BBC, Sky, C4 etc needed him far more than he needed them.
At one point, it felt like the entire UK was willing that Qatar A380 on as it attempted to land for the third time...
Landed at Heathrow on BA48 from SEA earlier today on first attempt. Even so there were a lot of barf bags put to use in the last 20 minutes before landing! I am very glad we didn't have to go around and do the roller coaster again.
Well, I imagine it's not his commentary, but when you see them fighting all the way down, spanking it on the runway, and the oleos going full travel, it's all the more impressive the pilot who counters the gusts, keeps to the centerline, taps it down on the piano keys and dramatically lowers the nose. Just like Liberace.
With my local train station closed I was unable to do the daily commute into London today so had the perfect excuse to watch Jerry on his amusing YouTube channel, made working from home enjoyable until my fence blew over.
Honestly, this kind of commentary makes us proud to be British. Unashamedly shocked when a pilot sticks a landing he really doesn’t need to and sighs when one of the big birds goes around again. Fascinating viewing.
I was on that Qatar Airways A380. Two go arounds before successfully landing on the 3rd approach. Plane was shaking even more when it was stationary on the ground than when it was in the air! That Big Jet guy racked up so many views today, a national tv news crew went down there to interview him!!

I was watching The first 2 landings were aborted quite early but the third looked superb and masterful. At one stage I thought the flight was going to divert after the 2md attempt. It headed South and circled around for at least 30 mins before it was able to receive a landing slot.
What did the captain say the two times it didn’t make it and had to go around? And did everyone clap when he did?
Before we took off, the pilot mentioned it may be windy on the approach to London. But when we were first coming in to land, the pilot said nothing about the storm, so apart from a big of swaying, we expected a regular landing. Then we felt the engines thrust and up we went. A family member of mine had warned me there would be a storm around the time I was due to arrive in London, so when I felt us go back up, I knew it must be because of that. Although it really didn’t feel too bad on board. After the first go around, he told passengers that he did a go around due to strong winds. The second approach was worse. Two prople were throwing up a few rows ahead of me, although I still wasn’t that bad, I’ve felt worse approaches in the past. After the second go around, he said they were going to make one final attempt to land and if unsuccessful we would be diverted. The final approach felt way smoother than the other two. When we hit the ground, people were clapping and you could a big sense of relief. The cameras onboard were very reassuring being able to see what was happening outside.
