I flew them Tashkent - London not long ago on an A321 and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food, cabin service etc. They do have potential to become a connecter for Europe - SE Asia traffic not unlike ME carriers like Gulf etc.
Uzbekistan is also experiencing huge tourism growth with several new airlines popping up operating everything from 30 year old 757-300s to A330s to these new 787s - anything to build capacity.
That's good to know, I'm hoping to go next month and haven't finalised things. Just a schlep going to London from here...

But Uzbekistan is not in SkyTeam so at least this can't be the worst.
Even if it turns negatively, visualise yourself flying Qsuites or Air France or JAL or something of that kind! 😉
I doubt you will be stopped from taking photos unless it is egregious. Recently flew them from Tashkent to Moscow on A320 and I was taking photos of the cabin. I got crew noticing me and they even got out of the way to let me take pictures. Maybe it entirely depends on what kind of crew you get, some like in my case will be receptive
You should definitely revisit Uzbekistan airways. The country is very different now.
Speaking of Uzbekistan, I remember your trip from almost a decade ago! When you were on a train, a local gave a thumbs up when they mentioned Obama & Trump and a thumbs down to Bush; Alrigthy then. And they kept on insisting they invite you over which made you uncomfortable.
