Czech once had some 737 flights to Bangkok via Dubai but this is next level....2 stops is surely not competitive at all. Plus business class will be a standard non flat bed so they can't sell those seats at a high price.

I assume SpiceJet is getting a decent deal on leasing these and wants to raise additional revenue with the current profitable cargo routes

SpiceJet DEL JFK using leased brand new Oman Air 787's. Spice in itself is a decent product but to entrust my life to them for super long haul , perhaps after they service the route for a few years. Otherwise sorry no .

Depends on market if these will come to reality. But for now they could use another carrier's aircraft or buy one of the spare planes just as they leased Oman Air said by @Chris on the comment above. However, just look at how Delta cut BOM to JFK because it wasn't generating much traffic.

SpiceJet too should consider other destinations missing on the map as well (Ireland, Germany, Netherlands, Australia, west coast, etc. too). The ones covered by Jet Airways could be covered up. Even consider flights out of BOM, BLR, MAA, etc.

This is a pure cargo play because of high yields. I highly doubt that they’ll be getting a ton of passengers on this route for the foreseeable future. India is a major producer of vaccines so they may want to take advantage of that (presumably) attractive cargo. Smart move.

Forget it. SpiceJet ain’t a good carrier to use if you care about your own safety.

While most Indian carriers leave a lot to be desired in at least one way or another (and I say this with experience flying a few myself), I wouldn’t get on a SpiceJet plane from Mumbai to Pune, much less on a transatlantic routing. When I was based in Mumbai, purposely never got near a SpiceJet plane, and still wouldn’t today. And certainly will not tomorrow.

I once had the privilege of flying from BOM to CMB with this airline. The worst flight ever. So cramped, almost inhumane, normal Indian standards of recalcitrancy. I could not imagine anything in life worse than the torture of UnSpicy Airlines on a flight to New York. Smelly! Yuk.

I don't think it's odd at all, given the objectives for these flights. These are not supposed to be the most convenient mode of travel, but to plug a mismatch between demand and supply in the current condition where foreign airlines are not operating.

They may also consider use of the Jet Airway 777s, which Jet Airways reclaimed from their lessor in August.

If they do actually start a two-stopper with a 737... Lufthansa's Pune flight may have some serious competition for 'least passenger-friendly flight in the world'
